Thamarite Archon |
Unlimited Only This model can only be used in the Unlimited game mode. You can see the other models with / without mk4 rules on this page. Note that the rest of this page is about the model's Mark III rules. |
Thamar is the Dark Sister, the more cunning and independent of the divine Twins, the rebel who did not join her brother Morrow in replacing one form of religious tyranny with another. To join in mortal battles, Thamar has sent her archons, figures drawn from Thamar’s Chosen, powerful once-mortal occultists who sought dark ascension. They serve as proxies for the goddess, either in the War of Souls or manifesting on Caen to confound the infernal invasion. More than any being, Thamar knows the peril of the infernals, for it was by her negotiations that the contract was sealed where they were promised the Claiming. The appearance of her archons is proof that she would defy that agreement.

Thoughts on the Thamarite Archon
Thamarite Archon in a nutshell
The Thamarite Archon is a ranged support solo with abnormally high mobility, impressive defensive stats, and is particularly difficult to come to grips with. His bow gives him plenty of flexibility on the battlefield and it can contribute damage moderate-ARM targets and mince infantry. With True Sight and rerollable RAT 7 shots, he should find something to do every turn.
The Death Driver shot must be seen to be fully appreciated, but once your own grunt walks behind your five point solo and smacks it down, you'll learn to fear the dark angels.
Finally, when Thamar's Teeth is relevant, it's devastating.
It is an outstanding piece against all but dedicated ARM skews. A bit pricey if it takes your merc slot, but still an outstanding model.
Combos & Synergies
- Run him with other Thamarite models to boost their accuracy. All three Thamarite casters (Crosse2, Fiona the Black, and Zerkova1/Zerkova2) are known for being offensive spellslingers or in Crosse’s case, just plain offensive.
- Fiona in particular brings Curse of Veils as a ranged damage buff. With ROF 3 this makes for stellar output.
- With Crosse2 it gains a turn of Stealth and Run & Gun during feat.
- The Morrowan Archon gets him to DEF 18 with Blinding Radiance.
- Jakes2 and Stryker1 both have DEF buffs that can raise the Thamarite to obnoxious levels of survivability.
- Ashlynn1's and Fiona's respective feats make him pretty much unkillable allowing some plays to contest opposing zones without losing anything.
- Thamarite Advocates really lay it on thick with the rerolls on offensive spellslingers.
- Ashlynn2 - Hand of Fate and True Path work very well on this model.
Drawbacks & Downsides
- No Melee weapon, so you’re limited to running or advancing and cannot engage an enemy.
- No Black Penny or Gunfighter so will always suffer -4 RAT shooting into combat.
- Abilities like Sandstorm, Flying High, Windstorm etc force him to get uncomfortably close.
- Most of its protection is in its DEF 16; it's only ARM 17 with 10 hit boxes. Enemies with stationary, MAT fixers or DEF debuffs can deal with it fairly easily, and boosting a hit Roll should result in average odds or better to land an attack.
- Though you have Parry to escape from engaging models, things that forbid advance (Shadow Bind, Crawling Chaos, or force you to give up Combat action or movement) can leave your archon to be stuck in melee with whatever the enemy runs up to your Archon with no way to extricate itself on its own and/or be relevant in combat.
Tricks & Tips
- He's happiest camped out in rubble (preferably on a flag), plinking away and handing out rerolls to his nearby Thamarite pals.
- He’s very fast and for many models a pain to remove, so he can jump onto faraway flags.
- Make sure you activate him last against enemy soul collectors so that you don’t accidentally replenish the souls he stripped.
- You can run some cheap units (Alexia’s Risen for example) in between models that are spaced to avoid blasts and tag it with eruption of ash to get more POW 12 hits than you would killing those models directly.
- Two of it’s shot types remove from play, while the third ruins soul collection, making the Thamarite a flexible counter to most popular means of recursion.
