Understanding
the Statblock

Abilities[edit]

  • Construct - This model is a construct and is not a living model.
  • Parry - This model cannot be targeted by free strikes.
  • Acrobatics - This model can advance through other models if it has enough movement to move completely past their bases. This model ignores intervening models when declaring its charge target.
  • Blade Shield - This model gains +2 DEF vs ranged attacks.
  • Prey - After deployment but before the first player's turn, choose an enemy model/unit to be this model/unit's prey. This model gains +2 to attack and damage rolls against its prey. When the prey is destroyed or removed from play, choose another model/unit to be the prey.
  • Side Step - When this model hits an enemy model with an initial melee attack or a melee special attack, it can advance up to 2" after the attack is resolved.
  • Soul Vessel - This model has a soul as if it were a living model.
  • Spring Blades - If a model hits J.A.I.M.s with a melee attack, the attacking model suffers d3 damage after the attack is resolved, unless J.A.I.M.s was destroyed or RFP'd by the attack.

Weapons[edit]

  • Ripping Claw (x2) - 0.5" reach, POW 3, P+S 11 melee attacks
    • Weapon Master - When attacking with this weapon, add an additional die to its damage rolls.
    • Grievous Wounds - A model hit by this weapon loses Tough and cannot have damage removed from it for one round.

This model/theme has only recently been released, and the content in the "Thoughts On" section is based more on theory-machine than actual gameplay experience.

Feel free to remove this warning if you, personally, have a good level of gameplay experience with the model, have reviewed this article, and either you A) agree with the content 100% or B) for the parts you disagree with, you don't strongly disagree; and it's more a case of differing opinions between you and previous editors rather than incorrect content / bad advice.

J.A.I.M.s in a nutshell[edit]

J.A.I.M.s is a highly-deliverable melee solo who will likely die the turn after she charges unless she plays on the wings where she can cause some trouble for flanking units. Alternately, she can put Grievous Wounds onto models that your opponent may want to heal next turn, which is helpful. She faces stiff competition as a Merc or Minion solo pick, even in Mercs or Minions and will likely only be seen in Convergence armies where she is a faction model.

Combos & Synergies[edit]

  • Aurora helps her output and speed quite a bit.
  • Macbain can use his feat to keep her alive and have Boomhowler stand her up allowing her to get into the back lines.
  • Theme - The Exalted for Skorne give JAIMS Immovable Object

Drawbacks & Downsides[edit]

  • Melee combat solos struggle mightily to earn back their points, especially with only two attacks.

Rules Clarification : Partisan      (Edit)

  • Partisans are normally "friendly Faction" to other Mercenary models. However, when taken in the [Partisan Faction] it is "friendly Faction" to that Faction and not to any other Mercenaries that are in that force.
    • For instance, if you take Gallant in a Mercenary force he is "friendly faction" to, say, Reinholdt. But if you take them both in a Cygnar force then Gallant counts as a Cygnar model and is no longer "friendly faction" to Reinholdt.
  • When taken in a Mercenary army, Partisan units may not take attachments from their [Partisan Faction] (eg Nyss Hunters can only take a Retribution Soulless Escort when they're fielded in a Retribution army). (Locked thread)
  • When taken in their [Partisan Faction], they can't have a Ranking Officer attached.
  • Partisan warcasters
    • If you have a Partisan caster, you must choose whether your army is a Mercenary force or a [Partisan Faction] force. What warjacks the caster can take are then limited by your choice.
    • Partisan casters can be taken in [Partisan Faction] theme forces. Refer to the main rulebook.
    • Partisan casters can be fielded in multiple-caster games. (Locked thread)

  • Partisans & Theme Forces (Edit)
    1. If the theme force has the Partisan model on the list of allowed models, then it doesn't use up your "Up to one mercenary" slot, and so you can take the full FA plus another mercenary. Example: Cephalyx in Black Industries or Kayazy in Jaws of the Wolf. (Infernal Ruling)
    2. If the Partisan isn't on the list, it does use up your "Up to one mercenary" slot, and you can only take one. There is a bug in Warroom that allows you to take multiple.
    • Whether you used option 1 or 2 above, once they're in your theme force they count as a Faction model and so...
      • they can count towards free points (if applicable). For instance, Nyss will count towards the "20 points of Retribution units" in the Defenders of Ios theme. (Infernal Ruling)
      • they can be taken free of cost (if applicable). For instance, Eiryss1 can be taken as a free solo in the Legion of Dawn theme. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Acrobatics      (Edit)

  • Charging through models (Edit)
    • You can't charge all the way through your charge target, with the intention to turn around and face them once you're on the other side.
      • Because you aren't able to satisfy the "must keep the charge target in melee range" clause at the point after you are through the model but before you turn to directly face. At that point the target is behind you, not in your front arc, and thus not in your melee range.
      • Your melee range only extends to your front arc. Refer to the latest errata.
    • You can still "skim" through the edge of their base, if you're careful and smart with your positioning.

Rules Clarification : Prey      (Edit)

  • When you declare your Prey target, it has to be used on a model that is currently on the table. You can't use it on models that are in Ambush, Burrow, etc. (Infernal Ruling)
  • If you have both Prey and Ambush, then you declare your Prey target at the normal time (even though the Prey-er isn't currently on the table). (Infernal Ruling)
  • Prey bonuses apply to "non-attack" damage, such as Electro Leap. (Infernal Ruling)
  • If you hit your Prey target, but your attack is "shifted" to a non-Prey model (via Shield Guard etc) then you don't get the damage bonus vs the new target.

Rules Clarification : Side Step      (Edit)

  • You can't trigger Side Step by hitting friendly models.
  • You can't trigger Side Step from additional attacks that you buy, or out-of-activation attacks (such as free strikes).
  • If you have multiple initial attacks, you have to step after each one. You can't "save up" all your side steps then get a single big 4" or 6" move.

Rules Clarification : Soul Vessel      (Edit)

  • A Soul Vessel is not a living model in any way, so it will not trigger anything like Bloodthirst or Poison.
  • The only thing Soul Vessel means is that it produces a soul when it is destroyed, as if it were a living model.
    • This does lead to the odd situation where an ability that would normally RFP a living model and prevent a soul token being generated (such as Snacking) will not work vs a Soul Vessel. So the Vessel can't get snacked and will produce a soul.

  • GW prevents "repairs" as well as "heals".
  • It does not stop a warlock transferring damage, or stop the wounded model from being able to 'heal' someone else.
  • Does not affect models with the Massive rule.
