Soul Taker is always part one of a "two parter" rule : Soul Taker [X].

Being a Soul Taker allows you to collect souls.
And [X] is what you can do with those souls once you have them. See the expandable lists for the various [X].

Different models have different collection ranges, and different limitations on what they can collect from (friendly vs enemy vs either, etc).

Certain rules interact specifically with Soul Taker models (such as how the Cryx Soul Trapper can hand souls to "a Soul Taker model").

Soul Taker abilities

List of "official" Soul Taker abilities   [Show/Hide]
  • Soul Taker: Altar of Sacrifice - Wurmwood can gain souls. When a living model is destroyed in Wurmwood's command range, Wurmwood can gain the destroyed model's soul token. Wurmwood can have up to three soul tokens at any time. After Wurmwood leeches during your next Control Phase, replace each soul token with 1 fury point.
  • Soul Taker : Body Count - This model can gain soul tokens. When this model destroys a living enemy model with an attack, this model gains the destroyed model's soul token. This model can have up to three soul tokens at any time. This model can spend soul tokens for the following:
  • Soul Taker: Cenotaph - A Sanctifier gains souls from friendly living Faction warriors that are destroyed within 5". It can carry up to 5 souls, and at the start of its activation it can convert them into focus.
  • Soul Taker: Collector - This model can gain soul tokens. When a living enemy model is destroyed while within this model's command range, this model gains the destroyed models soul token. This model can have up to three soul tokens at any time. This model can spend soul tokens for the following:
  • Soul Taker: Crusader's Requiem - This model can collect soul tokens. When a friendly living Exemplar model is destroyed while in this model's command range, this model gains the destroyed model's soul token. This model can have up to 3 soul tokens at any time. This model can spend soul tokens for the following:
  • Soul Taker: Crypt of Souls - (1) This model can gain soul tokens. When a living model is destroyed in this model's command range, this model gains the destroyed model's soul token. (2) At the start of each of your Control Phases, this model receives d3 soul tokens if it does not have any. (3) This model can have up to five soul tokens at any time. This modle can spend soul tokens for the following:
  • Soul Taker: Cull Soul - This model can gain soul tokens. When a living enemy model is destroyed within 2" of this model, this model gains the destroyed model's soul token. After this model {{{1}}} during your next Control Phase, replace each soul token with 1 {{{2}}} point.
  • Soul Taker: Gatekeeper - This model can collect soul tokens. When a living friendly Faction model is destroyed while in this model's command range, this model gains the destroyed model's soul token. This model can have up to three soul tokens at any time. This model can spend soul tokens for the following:
  • Soul Taker: Reclaim - This model can gain souls. When a friendly living Faction model is destroyed by a continuous effect, an enemy attack, or collateral damage from an enemy attack while in this model's control range, this model gains the destroyed model's soul token. After this model {{{1}}} during your next Control Phase, replace each soul token with 1 {{{2}}} point.
  • Soul Taker: Shepherd - This model can gain souls. When a model in this unit is destroyed while in formation, this model can gain the destroyed model's soul token. This model can have up to five soul tokens at any time. This model can spend soul tokens for the following:
  • Soul Taker: Soul Cage - This model collects souls from living enemies who die within 2" of it. This model can store up to three souls and spend them for the following:
  • Soul Taker: Soul Keeper - A Reclaimer collects souls from living friendly Protectorate models destroyed in its command range. It can have up to 3 souls.
  • Soul Taker: Soul Reaver - Crosse can gain soul tokens. When he destroys a living enemy model with an attack with this weapon, he gains the destroyed model’s soul token. Crosse can have up to 5 soul tokens at any time.
  • Soul Taker: Soul Thief - This model can gain soul tokens. When this model destroys a living enemy model with an attack with this weapon, this model gains the destroyed model's soul token. When this model replenishes its focus durning your next Control Phase, replace each soul token on it with 1 focus point.
  • Soul Taker: Spirit Harvester - This model can gain soul tokens. When a living enemy model is destroyed within 5" of this model, this model gains the destroyed model's soul token. This model can have up to five soul tokens at any time. At the start of this model's activation, you can remove soul tokens from this model to give it 1 focus point for each token removed.

Quasi-Soul Taker abilities

There are a few other ways models can get souls, which aren't actually "Soul Taker", but we have also included in this category for completeness.

List of "unofficial" Soul Taker abilities   [Show/Hide]
  • Death Reaper - When a living enemy model is destroyed while in Vociferon's command range, Asphyxious gains the soul token.
  • Devour Soul - When this model destroys a living enemy model with this weapon and generates a soul token, you choose which model with the Soul Taker ability gains the destroyed model’s soul, regardless of the proximity of other models. Enemy models cannot gain soul tokens from models destroyed by this weapon.
  • Soul Claiming - When a living enemy model is destroyed within 4" of this Soul Stalker while it is in its controller's control range, its controller gains the destroyed model's soul token regardless of the proximity of other models.
  • Soul Reaper (★ Action) - Place a 5" AOE anywhere completely within Asphyxious' control range. It remains in play for one round. When a living model is destroyed in the AOE, Asphyxious gains its soul token. While the AOE is in play Asphyxious cannot make melee attacks and has no melee range.

Annihilation

4 10 3 10 - Yes
Models hit suffer a POW 10 damage roll. Models destroyed are RFP'd and don't generate corpse tokens. When a living enemy model is destroyed by Annihilation, the caster gains its soul token regardless of the proximity of other models.


Dark Fire

2 10 - 12 - Yes
If this spell destroys a living enemy model then the caster gets the soul token regardless of the proximity of other Soul Takers.


Feast of Worms

4 10 4 12 Upkeep Yes
(1) Enemy models in the AOE suffer -2 ARM (before the damage roll), (2) Scaverous gains souls from living models that are destroyed while in the AOE, and (3) The AOE remains in play as long as the upkeep is paid.
Hollow

2 6 - - Upkeep -
Target friendly living Skorne warrior model/unit gains Undead and Soul Vessel. When an affected model is destroyed, the spellcaster gains its soul token regardless of the proximity of other models.
Soul Vessel - This model generates soul tokens as if it were a living model.
Lifebound

2 6 - - Upkeep -
This spell has two effects:
  1. Target living model/unit gains Shield Guard.
  2. When an affected model is destroyed by an enemy attack, the caster gains its soul token.
Shield Guard - Once per round, when a friendly model is directly hit by a non-spray ranged attack during your opponent's turn while within 3" of this model, you can choose to have this model directly hit instead. This model is automatically hit and suffers all damage and effects. This model cannot use Shield Guard while it is incorporeal, knocked down, or stationary.


Soul Harvester

2 6 - - Upkeep -
When target friendly Faction model/unit destroys a living enemy model with a melee attack, the spellcaster gains the destroyed model’s soul token regardless of the proximity of other models.
Witch Bond

2 6 - - Upkeep -
(1) When target warjack in Deneghra's battlegroup destroys a living enemy model with an attack, she gains the destroyed model’s soul token regardless of the proximity of other models. (2) When checking to see if the affected warjack is in her control range, double the range.
