''One constant is true across the Iron Kingdoms: everybody needs to eat. Theme - Will Work for Food Minion Theme Force |
One constant is true across the Iron Kingdoms: everybody needs to eat. In lean times, many of the wild peoples of western Immoren are willing to put aside their differences and work together for mutual survival. The primal need to eat and endure becomes a particular challenge when one’s closest companions are enormous and voracious warbeasts. Larger armed groups of wilderness warriors might muster to offer their services in exchange for food, weapons, or other barter to see them through the lean months. For some, the most eagerly anticipated treasure is the great volume of meat that can be butchered from the fallen and consumed in the aftermath of battle.

Will Work for Food in a nutshell
It's a minion army that focuses on warbeasts - and lesser warlocks. Fast out of the gates, the warbeasts all advance move - and with the advance move and the combat units being basically restricted to Boomhowler's and the Nyss it's hard for the units to keep up. The Farrow Valkyries are a part-combat unit (part shield guards) and you probably want them if you're only taking three free solos.
Overtake is awesome for letting your beasts eat infantry (especially on the Swamp Horror), and between the Blackhide Wrastler, the Battle Boar, and caster based buffs minion beasts can shatter armour. You have all the tools to run beast-heavy here - the only question is what is in your actual army.
Weaknesses & Mitigating them
The main weaknesses are the general minion weaknesses; there are a significant number of minion units and minion support models allowed in Will Work for Food - and even a couple of full sized units. But minion warbeasts tend to be weak, especially on the Thornfall side.
List Building Tips
"Rask & Friends" is an affectionate dubbing by the community for a Rask list primarily conposed of the lesser Warlocks. Rask usually takes at least one Swamp Horror and Blackhide Wrastler and then either a second one of those or an Ironback Spitter. Rorsh will bring a Battle Boar for it's Animus, then you should bring Dahlia and either Wrongeye or Lug. This will net you 4 free solos: Pupular choices are Orin, Kwaak, a Mist Speaker and a Sould Slave (the last one being the most essential). The remaining points can be filled with Bellow Crews or Gobber Chefs.
With up to four free solos the expensive ones are Alten Ashley, the Efaarit Scout, the Totem Hunter, and Orin Midwinter; despite the Valkyries it may be worth having an Ogrun Bokur as a free model if you want to go all out on beasts and just get four free solos.
Warlocks of notes
- Dr. Arkadius might be the strongest warbeast warlock in the game (although it's a pity about his beasts). He's always played here.
- Rask is one of the best all round warlocks, and works well here, too.
- Midas is weirdly enough a warlock who wants infantry but is normally played in WWFF; he's a combined arms caster and loves both the Soul Slave and the Boil Master. And generally here takes the Nyss as his first choice unit.
Any minion warlock you want a big battle group with - or even use lesser warlocks with works well.
