Una the Falconer
Circle Blackclad Character Solo (Lesser Warlock)

Una the Falconer shares a special connection with the beasts that roam the skies. She sees through their eyes, giving her an unencumbered view of her surroundings. Her birds of prey hunt her foes at her direction, darting and diving to tear flesh from bone before soaring high again to ready for another strike.

Weapons[edit]

  • Talonstrike - 2" reach, P+S 9 melee weapon
  • Bird of Prey - Range = CTRL, ROF d3, POW 10 gun
    • Black Penny - this weapon/attack ignores the "target in melee" DEF bonus.

Abilities[edit]

  • Lesser Warlock - This model is not a warlock (it's a solo) but has the following warlock special rules: Battlegroup Commander, Fury Manipulation, Healing, Spellcaster, and Transferring Damage. This model must have at least one warbeast in its battlegroup at the start of the game.
  • Affinity [Warbeasts with Flight] - The only warbeasts that can be included in this model's battlegroup are Warbeasts with Flight.
  • Bird's Eye - Battlegroup models in control range ignore clouds, forests and intervening models for line of sight.

Spells[edit]

  • Dog Pile - Cost 2, 12" range, POW -, Offensive Upkeep
Warbeasts in the caster's battlegroup can charge or make slam power attacks against target model without being forced. They can ignore forests and cloud effects when determing LOS when declaring a charge or slam attack against the affected model. They gain +2" movement and pathfinder when resolving charges or slam power attacks targeting the affected model.
Once per turn, when an enemy finishes their movement within 6" of the caster, you can choose one of the caster's warbeasts currently in their CTRL range. That warbeast can immediately make a full advance towards that enemy and then attack it with a fully boosted melee or ranged attack.

Analysis of Una the Falconer[edit]

Una the Falconer in a nutshell[edit]

Una is a useful lesser warlock - best off taking one warbeast and spending most of her time using her Birds of Prey as boostable attacks to unjam other models.

Combos & Synergies[edit]

  • The Scarsfell Griffon is usually considered the best beast for her to take. 3 initials, stealth and Tracker are all nice. It used to have long leash, which was incredibly good for her, but it was sadly errata'd away.

Drawbacks and Downsides[edit]

  • Like all journeyman warlocks, she has short control range, low fury and is fairly squishy.
  • Her limited battlegroup means you aren't going to get much work out of her beasts, unless a flying heavy comes along.
  • It's fairly easy to have her faster beasts out distance her.

Tricks and Tips[edit]

  • While she can take the Storm Raptor, that is generally a terrible idea.
  • A boostable black penny gun is awesome. She should be using that every turn she can.

Rules Clarifications[edit]

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Black Penny      (Edit)

  • You ignore the "Target in Melee" DEF bonus, but if you miss you still need to randomly reassign the shot as per normal.

Rules Clarification:  : Magical Damage      (Edit)
(Click Expand to read)

* The "Damage Type: Magical" is not inherited by "secondary" damage from a weapon. That is, stuff like arcs (Electro Leap) or hazards (Scather). (Infernal Ruling)
  • All spells have "Damage Type: Magical" (refer errata).
    • This is inherited by "immediate" secondary damage (such as Eruption of Spines). (Infernal Ruling)
    • and might be inherited by "lingering" secondary damage (see below).
  • If a spell leaves a template in play that does damage to models that walk around in it, then:
    • if it is not described as a hazard it will do magical damage to models that walk around in it. (Example: Razor Wall)
    • if it is a hazard then it will not do magical damage to models that walk around in it. Instead, it does whatever damage type is specified by the spell description. (Example: Breath of Corruption).
    • (Infernal Ruling)
  • If a weapon/spell includes Magic Damage and another kind of elemental damage it will still damage Incorporeal models. Incorporeal models are not affected by the rule "if an attack does multiple types of damage and a model is immune to at least one it is immune to the entire attack."
The phrase "immune to non-magical damage" should be interpreted as "immune to damage that doesn't include Damage Type: Magical" (not interpreted as "has immunity to Corrosion and Electricity and Cold and etc.")

Rules Clarification : Lesser Warlock and/or Draconic Consort     (Edit)

  • This model has a completely separate battlegroup to your main warlock.
    • Your main warlock cannot force warbeasts under this model's control (and vice versa).
    • Any spells/effects that apply to your main warlock's battlegroup (such as Warpath) do not apply to warbeasts under this model's control (and vice versa).
  • This model is a solo, and is not a warlock
    • It is affected by stuff which specifies "non-warlock models" (such as Seduction).
    • It is not affected by stuff which specifies "warlock" (such as Black Arts).
  • When this solo dies, any warbeasts they are controlling go wild exactly as if it was a warlock. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Limited Battlegroup and/or Affinity - None yet. (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Awareness and/or Bird's Eye     (Edit)

  • You only ignore clouds, forests, and models for LOS purposes. So, for instance, if you attack a model standing in a forest then it will still get concealment.

Rules Clarification : Dog Pile      (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Watcher and/or Guardian Beast and/or Dark Sentinel     (Edit)

  • A Colossal/Gargantuan cannot benefit from the movement, but they do get to make an attack. One is not conditional on the other. (Locked thread)
  • Guardian Beast is being errata'd to include the words "you can choose", same as Watcher. (Infernal Ruling)
  • If you choose not to use it the first time it is triggered, you can save it for when it next gets triggered. It's not a "use it or lose it" ability.
  • Dark Sentinel only
