Thoughts on Kovnik Apprentice Kratikoff

Template:Recent Release

Sorscha0 in a Nutshell

Kovnik Apprentice Kratikoff is Boundless Charge on a stick and as such, she is all about threat extention. Since Boundless is not an upkeep it can be stacked with any other movement buffs your actual warcaster can provide. She also provides concealment via Fog of War for some protection against shooting. Additionally, she keeps your Winter Guard on their feet and, most importantly, runs a jack for you.

Combos & Synergies

Sorscha0 is a buffbot that hands out benefits to jacks and Winter Guard alike that can be futher stacked with other buffs from solos or Casters.

  • Her No Sleeping ability combines nicely with Kovnik Jozef's ability to hand out tough.
  • Fog of War is great to keep models alive on the way in. It stacks nicely with spells such as Iron Flesh on the units you want protected.
    • Butcher1 and Old Witch1 both hand out Iron Flesh.
      • Since it is not upkept on them, Fog of War is one of the rare buffs for Doom Reavers. You'll have to play out of theme though.
  • Old Witch1 also especially benefits from Fog of War since it triggers her Prowl and Apparition and Gallows can act as a pseudo threat extender on top of Boundless.
  • Any caster with movement buffs will apprechiate the extra 2" from Boundless since it can, depending on the caster, push threat ranges to ludicrous levels. There include:
    • Harkevich with Mobility.
    • Butcher3 with Energizer, Vengeance and Impending Doom.
    • Irusk2 also with Energizer.
    • Malakov2 with Escort also his sneak battle plan stacks nicely with Fog of War.
    • Kozlov with his feat and he himslf has Sidestep
    • Karchev's Road to War.
    • Strakhov1 with his feat, Superiority and Overrun.
    • Irusk1 also with Superiority
    • Strakhov2 with Quicken.
  • Jacks in WGK can also have Advance Deployment which up their threat ranges yet again.
  • Note that Juggernauts will threaten the furthest out of any Khador jack.
  • Malakov1 forms quite the dynamic duo with her in either theme, since they can stack Redline and Boundless on any targetable jack without any input from your caster.

Sorscha0's battlegroup

  • A Rager is a cheap shield guard. Which is what every journeyman loves.
  • The Berserker is the cheapest jack you can put on her if you want to save points.
  • Beast-09 can actually be taken in Winter Guard Kommand under her.

Drawbacks & Downsides

She's essentially just a buffbot and as such contributes little to the fight herself. You'll have to keep her far back.

Tricks & Tips

Her control range with Fog of War is not that large. Which might be good since there's less danger to conceal your enemies models.

Rules Clarifications

Note to self: I need to update this rules section after the rules are finalised - juckto.

Rules Clarification:  : Magical Damage      (Edit)
(Click Expand to read)

* The "Damage Type: Magical" is not inherited by "secondary" damage from a weapon. That is, stuff like arcs (Electro Leap) or hazards (Scather). (Infernal Ruling)
  • All spells have "Damage Type: Magical" (refer errata).
    • This is inherited by "immediate" secondary damage (such as Eruption of Spines). (Infernal Ruling)
    • and might be inherited by "lingering" secondary damage (see below).
  • If a spell leaves a template in play that does damage to models that walk around in it, then:
    • if it is not described as a hazard it will do magical damage to models that walk around in it. (Example: Razor Wall)
    • if it is a hazard then it will not do magical damage to models that walk around in it. Instead, it does whatever damage type is specified by the spell description. (Example: Breath of Corruption).
    • (Infernal Ruling)
  • If a weapon/spell includes Magic Damage and another kind of elemental damage it will still damage Incorporeal models. Incorporeal models are not affected by the rule "if an attack does multiple types of damage and a model is immune to at least one it is immune to the entire attack."
The phrase "immune to non-magical damage" should be interpreted as "immune to damage that doesn't include Damage Type: Magical" (not interpreted as "has immunity to Corrosion and Electricity and Cold and etc.")

Rules Clarification : Cold - None yet. (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Battlegroup Controller      (Edit)

  • This model has a completely separate battlegroup to your main warcaster.
    • Your main warcaster cannot allocate focus to warjacks under this model's control (and vice versa).
    • Any spells/effects that apply to your main warcaster's battlegroup (such as Energizer) do not apply to warjacks under this model's control (and vice versa).
  • This model is not a warcaster
  • Warjacks this solo controls can still benefit from Power Up exactly as if it were a warcaster. (Closed thread)
  • When this model dies, any warjacks they are controlling go inert exactly as if it was a warcaster. (Infernal Ruling)
    • See this article for the Inert warjack rules and how to re-activate them.

Inert warjacks

  • Abilities that say they cannot be used if the model is stationary (such as Shield Guard) cannot be used while a warjack is inert, either. Refer "Warcaster Destruction", page 59 of the core rulebook.

Rules Clarification : No Sleeping on the Job      (Edit)

  • If a model is already knocked down, and is then affected by NSotJ, it doesn't get to stand up. The "cannot be knocked down" isn't retroactively applied.

Rules Clarification : Boundless Charge      (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Fog of War      (Edit)

  • All players will gain concealment from Fog of War. It lacks the "friendly models gain ..." part that would normally limit it.
