Prime
This model is available in one Prime Army, 5th Division. It can also be used in the Unlimited game mode. You can view the other Mk3 models that made it into a Legacy Army at this page.

Note that the rest of this page is about the model's Mark III rules.

Widowmakers are the elite scout-sniper corps of the Khadoran army. With deadly ease they can take apart incoming warjacks piece by piece or kill a man as easily as drawing a breath. Only the best marksmen and markswomen from the Winter Guard Rifle Corps are sent to train to become windowmaker scouts. They travel in packs of four with their trusty hunting rifle.

Thoughts on Widowmaker Scouts

Widowmaker Scouts in a nutshell

Widowmakers are long range snipers, great for thinning out the enemy ranks and/or support solos. They're especially good vs high-ARM single-wound infantry, as their Sniper rule will completely negate the high ARM. They will usually use Advance Deployment and a turn 1 run to get in a good position, then try to stay in place for the aiming bonus the rest of the game.

They operate fairly caster-independently, and in fact you usually don't want to cast buffs on them (as you probably have a better target for that spell). However casters that can buff them without targeting them (such as Sorscha1's Fog of War spell) will profit even more from their inclusion in the list.

Combos & Synergies

  • Widowmaker Marksman grants them Swift Hunter, allowing them to move 2" after killing an enemy.
  • Irusk1 can give them Repo [3] via his Battle Plan.
  • Kell Bailoch also has Marksman. Between him, this unit, and the Marksman you can take 6 damage off one column of a warjack. If you start with a column that is already damaged, you've got good odds of crippling something.
  • Spriggan or Torch can help you with stealthy models (who are usually off-limits to the Widowmakers).
  • If Ruin is near enemy infantry, he'll be able to hoover up the souls of anyone they kill.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Low ARM makes them susceptible to sprays and blasts.
  • They're mopey in melee.
  • They can't see Stealth models, and they can't see through clouds.
  • Low POW makes them useless vs multi-wound high-ARM enemies, such as enemy warjacks. (Although they can try and cripple aspects as mentioned above.)

Tips & Tricks

  • Sniper damage is instead of the normal damage roll. If you chose to roll for damage, and don't beat the ARM of the target, you won't get the 1 damage from Sniper.
  • Whether or not you roll damage, you always ignore Tough.

Rules Clarifications

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Advance Deployment      (Edit)

  • Sometimes you can attach a WA or CA that doesn't have AD to a unit that does have AD. If you do, the attachment effectively gains AD and they can all advance deploy together. (Locked Thread)

Rules Clarification : Pathfinder      (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Marksman and/or Precision Strike     (Edit)

  • These abilities do not get around Retribution Force Fields. The attacker's ability assigns it to a column, and Force Field reassigns it.
  • Versus a Colossal or Gargantuan, you don't get to choose which grid is damaged. That is still governed by which Firing Arc the attacker is standing in.
  • Attacker chooses column vs Defender chooses column (Edit)
    • When both the attacker and defender have an ability that lets them choose the column that gets damaged, the attacker gets to choose. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Sniper      (Edit)

  • If you choose to do 1 point of damage, this is still considered to be damage "from an attack" for the purposes of Vengeance etc. (Locked thread)
