This model has not (yet) been updated with Mk IV rules, as of 2022.12. Privateer Press have promised it will get updated ... eventually.
You can view the Mk3 models that have been updated on this page.

Note that the rest of this page is about the model's Mark III rules.

Thamar is the Dark Sister, the more cunning and independent of the divine Twins, the rebel who did not join her brother Morrow in replacing one form of religious tyranny with another. To join in mortal battles, Thamar has sent her archons, figures drawn from Thamar’s Chosen, powerful once-mortal occultists who sought dark ascension. They serve as proxies for the goddess, either in the War of Souls or manifesting on Caen to confound the infernal invasion. More than any being, Thamar knows the peril of the infernals, for it was by her negotiations that the contract was sealed where they were promised the Claiming. The appearance of her archons is proof that she would defy that agreement.

Mercenary - Thamarite Archons will work for Crucible Guard, Cygnar, or Khador.

AnimosityMenite ] - This model cannot be part of an army that includes Menite models.

Abilities

  • Flight symbol.jpg Flight
  • Parry symbol.jpg Parry
  • Beloved of Thamar - When a friendly Thamarite model in this model's command range misses an atack roll, it can reroll that attack roll. Each attack roll can be rerolled only once as a result of Beloved of Thamar.
  • Divine Manifestation - This model is not a living model, cannot become knocked down, and never suffers Blind. Opponents cannot take control of this model.
  • Dodge - This model can advance up to 2" immediately after an enemy attack that missed it is resolved unless it was missed while advancing. It cannot be targeted by free strikes during this movement.
  • True Sight - This model ignores cloud effects when determining LOS. This model also ignores Stealth.

Weapons

Murmur
Gun icon.jpg  RNG   ROF   AOE   POW
12 3 - 14
  • Magical dam symbol.jpg Damage Type: Magical
  • Attack Type - Each time this weapon is used to make an attack, choose one of the following special rules:
    • Death Driver - When this weapon boxes a living or undead non-warcaster, non-warlock enemy warrior model, you can immediately take control of the enemy model and make a full advance with it followed by a basic melee attack, then the boxed model is removed from play. The boxed model cannot be targeted by free strikes during this movement.
    • Eruption of Ash - If a model is boxed by an attack made with this weapon, center a 3" AOE cloud on it then RFP it. The AOE is a hazard that remains in play for one round. Enemy models within the AOE when it is put into play suffer a POW 12 fire damage roll. Enemy models entering or ending their activation in the AOE suffer a POW 12 fire damage roll. Eruption of Ash damage rolls cannot be boosted.
    • Thamar's Teeth - When this weapon hits a model with soul tokens, the damage roll for this attack is boosted. After resolving an attack with this weapon, remove all soul tokens from models it hits.

Theme Forces

  • Other Factions
    • Cygnar and Khador players can also use this model in the Flame in the Darkness theme.
    • Furthermore, Mercenary models can be hired by other Factions. Normally those Factions' themes will have a limit on how many models they can hire. Refer to #Other Theme Forces, below.

Thoughts on the Thamarite Archon

Thamarite Archon in a nutshell

The Thamarite Archon is a ranged support solo with abnormally high mobility, impressive defensive stats, and is particularly difficult to come to grips with. His bow gives him plenty of flexibility on the battlefield and it can contribute damage moderate-ARM targets and mince infantry. With True Sight and rerollable RAT 7 shots, he should find something to do every turn.

The Death Driver shot must be seen to be fully appreciated, but once your own grunt walks behind your five point solo and smacks it down, you'll learn to fear the dark angels.

Finally, when Thamar's Teeth is relevant, it's devastating.

It is an outstanding piece against all but dedicated ARM skews. A bit pricey if it takes your merc slot, but still an outstanding model.

Combos & Synergies

  • Run him with other Thamarite models to boost their accuracy. All three Thamarite casters (Crosse2, Fiona the Black, and Zerkova1/Zerkova2) are known for being offensive spellslingers or in Crosse’s case, just plain offensive.
    • Fiona in particular brings Curse of Veils as a ranged damage buff. With ROF 3 this makes for stellar output.
    • With Crosse2 it gains a turn of Stealth and Run & Gun during feat.
  • The Morrowan Archon gets him to DEF 18 with Blinding Radiance.
  • Jakes2 and Stryker1 both have DEF buffs that can raise the Thamarite to obnoxious levels of survivability.
  • Ashlynn1's and Fiona's respective feats make him pretty much unkillable allowing some plays to contest opposing zones without losing anything.
  • Thamarite Advocates really lay it on thick with the rerolls on offensive spellslingers.
  • Ashlynn2 - Hand of Fate and True Path work very well on this model.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • No Melee weapon, so you’re limited to running or advancing and cannot engage an enemy.
  • No Black Penny or Gunfighter so will always suffer -4 RAT shooting into combat.
  • Abilities like Sandstorm, Flying High, Windstorm etc force him to get uncomfortably close.
  • Most of its protection is in its DEF 16; it's only ARM 17 with 10 hit boxes. Enemies with stationary, MAT fixers or DEF debuffs can deal with it fairly easily, and boosting a hit Roll should result in average odds or better to land an attack.
  • Though you have Parry to escape from engaging models, things that forbid advance (Shadow Bind, Crawling Chaos, or force you to give up Combat action or movement) can leave your archon to be stuck in melee with whatever the enemy runs up to your Archon with no way to extricate itself on its own and/or be relevant in combat.

Tricks & Tips

  • He's happiest camped out in rubble (preferably on a flag), plinking away and handing out rerolls to his nearby Thamarite pals.
  • He’s very fast and for many models a pain to remove, so he can jump onto faraway flags.
  • Make sure you activate him last against enemy soul collectors so that you don’t accidentally replenish the souls he stripped.
  • You can run some cheap units (Alexia’s Risen for example) in between models that are spaced to avoid blasts and tag it with eruption of ash to get more POW 12 hits than you would killing those models directly.
  • Two of it’s shot types remove from play, while the third ruins soul collection, making the Thamarite a flexible counter to most popular means of recursion.

Rules Clarifications

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Animosity      (Edit)

  • When using the Specialist or ADR rules in a Steamroller format, your entire list and the specialists must be a single legally fieldable force (even though you're not fielding it all at once).

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification:  : Flight      (Edit)
(Click Expand to read)

  • Flight doesn't ignore:
    • Impassable terrain.
    • Most hazards. The exception is they do ignore Acid Bath and Burning Earth as long as they don't land in them.
    • Templates that stay in play and do damage to models moving through them (such as a Scather).
    • Free strikes.
  • Trampling with a flying model (Edit)
    • Flight allows you to trample "over" medium- and larger-bases.
    • Although you trample "over" them, you don't get to make a trample attack vs them and you don't ignore their free strikes. Refer the core rulebook.
      • Unless, of course, you have an exception like Blade Rush.
  • Flight on a Cavalry model (Edit)
    • Although flyers can move over obstacles/models, and horses can pause to do impacts while charging, flying horses cannot make impact attacks while overlapping models/obstacles. You need to pause in a legal position.
  • Charging through models (Edit)
    • You can't charge all the way through your charge target, with the intention to turn around and face them once you're on the other side.
      • Because you aren't able to satisfy the "must keep the charge target in melee range" clause at the point after you are through the model but before you turn to directly face. At that point the target is behind you, not in your front arc, and thus not in your melee range.
      • Your melee range only extends to your front arc. Refer to the latest errata.
    • You can still "skim" through the edge of their base, if you're careful and smart with your positioning.

Rules Clarification : Parry - None yet. (Edit)
Rules Clarification : Beloved of Thamar - None yet. (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Divine Manifestation      (Edit)

  • Archons are not living models, but neither are they constructs, undead, etc. They're just ... archons.
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Dodge      (Edit)

  • Dodge triggers after any missed attack - melee, ranged, or magic.
  • An enemy model with 2" melee range that is B2B with you before you Dodge, will be exactly 2" away afterwards, and thus will be able to attempt a 2nd melee attack.
  • If you're missed by an AOE attack, but it doesn't deviate very far and still hits you then: Dodge still triggers, but the AOE does damage before you get the Dodge movement. (Infernal Ruling)
  • If an enemy can attack you when you advance and then stop moving (such as Countercharge or Defensive Strike) and they miss you, then you can trigger Dodge (because you're no longer advancing).
  • Dodge plus Riposte (Edit)
    • If a model has both Dodge and Riposte, you can choose whether to dodge or riposte first. Appendix A Step 13 applies here, because the controller of the model being attacked is not the active player.
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : True Sight      (Edit)

  • You only ignore clouds for LOS. Models can still get the concealment bonus, trigger Prowl, etc from clouds. (Infernal Ruling)
  • A model that ignores Stealth must ignore both aspects: both (1) the auto-missing, and (2) the 'not counting as an intervening model' parts.
    • This can have some strange interactions with casters & channelers, if one has True Sight and one does not. There are examples on the Category:Channeler page.

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification:  : Magical Damage      (Edit)
(Click Expand to read)

* The "Damage Type: Magical" is not inherited by "secondary" damage from a weapon. That is, stuff like arcs (Electro Leap) or hazards (Scather). (Infernal Ruling)
  • All spells have "Damage Type: Magical" (refer errata).
    • This is inherited by "immediate" secondary damage (such as Eruption of Spines). (Infernal Ruling)
    • and might be inherited by "lingering" secondary damage (see below).
  • If a spell leaves a template in play that does damage to models that walk around in it, then:
    • if it is not described as a hazard it will do magical damage to models that walk around in it. (Example: Razor Wall)
    • if it is a hazard then it will not do magical damage to models that walk around in it. Instead, it does whatever damage type is specified by the spell description. (Example: Breath of Corruption).
    • (Infernal Ruling)
  • If a weapon/spell includes Magic Damage and another kind of elemental damage it will still damage Incorporeal models. Incorporeal models are not affected by the rule "if an attack does multiple types of damage and a model is immune to at least one it is immune to the entire attack."
The phrase "immune to non-magical damage" should be interpreted as "immune to damage that doesn't include Damage Type: Magical" (not interpreted as "has immunity to Corrosion and Electricity and Cold and etc.")
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Attack Type and/or Arcane Savant     (Edit)

  • If you forget to declare your Attack Type before rolling the attack, and you and your opponent can't agree on a fair fix, then the Judge's Policy is that the first listed Attack Type is the one that will be used.
  • If your target can only be targeted by certain kinds of attack (ie a Menoth warjack with Passage), you can first choose the correct Attack Type (ie Magical Damage vs Passage) and then that allows you to target it. The Attack Type selection and target declaration both occur at Step 1 (Refer Appendix A). (Infernal Ruling)
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Death Driver      (Edit)

Taking Control of an Enemy Model (Edit)   [Show/Hide]

General

  • Several abilities start with the sentence "Take control of a model" then a full stop, then a bunch of stuff you can do with that model. You can't uncouple the first sentence from the rest of the "do stuff" sentence(s), in other words if you want to "do stuff" then you have to "Take control". (Infernal Ruling)
  • Taking control of a model means it is now friendly to you, and will immediately be engaged by it's erstwhile allies.
    • This will limit your ability to make ranged attacks.
    • If you get to make an advance with the controlled model, this can allow the original owner to take free strikes against his own model. He doesn't have to take these, of course.
  • The controlled model does not have a proper Activation, so stuff like Chain Strike won't apply.
  • You can use abilities on the controlled model, as long as they're not restricted to "during its activation" or "during its Combat Action". For example, you can use Mental Force. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Buffs and effects:
    • The controlled model counts as a "friendly model" and will benefit from any "while within" (aura) buffs that your own models are handing out (such as Mark Target), (assuming the controlled model meets the criteria for the buff).
    • If the controlled model has already been hit by a "currently within" (pulse) debuff, then it will keep that debuff while under your control. Even if that pulse only affected enemy models (such as Deneghra1's feat) - temporarily changing who is friendly/enemy doesn't change who was/wasn't affected by the pulse.
    • If your opponent is the same faction, then the controlled model will count as a "friendly faction model" and even more buffs are potentially available (such as Veteran Leader).
  • Theme abilities:
    • If a model gains an ability via a Theme Force rule, and then the opponent takes it over, it keeps the theme ability. (Infernal Ruling)

Movement

  • You can advance a model into an area and force them to take damage (like an acid cloud, or a Razor Wall template), but they only take damage once per advance (ref Prime rulebook pg 65). Thus you cannot keep moving them micro-millimetres in and out of said area to inflict infinite damage.
  • The model is friendly while under your control, so you can't force free strikes by walking it past your own models. You can, however, walk it past your opponent's models and politely ask if they want to take free strikes against their own model.

Attacks

  • Many "Take Control" abilities allow a basic melee attack. Some allow a basic attack. Gunfighters cannot make a ranged attack unless they're allowed the later.
  • Point Blank attacks cannot be made with temporarily controlled models, as Point Blank is only allowed 'during activation.'
  • With reference to the attack sequence (appendix A) your control of the model doesn't expire until after Step 14. So you can potentially trigger abilities like Snacking (Step 11.4).
    • As long as it's not limited to "during combat action" or "during activation".

Destroying the Controlled model
If the model is destroyed or RFP'd while under your control (for instance you walked it into a hazard), this has two consequences:

  1. It is considered to be under your control at the moment it is taken off the table:
    • Your opponent can't reave fury off a warbeast destroyed this way, because it is an enemy warbeast when it is taken off the table.
    • Your opponent can't trigger stuff that depends on a "Friendly model" being destroyed (such as Righteous Vengeance).
    • You can't trigger stuff that depends on an "Enemy model" being destroyed (such as Cull Soul).
  2. It returns to the original owner once it's off the table:
    • Your opponent can use Spirit Bond to get fury from the dead warbeast.
    • Your opponent can use Return To Play abilities to get it back on the table (assuming it wasn't RFP'd).

Taking control of an enemy Trooper (member of a unit)

  • A trooper you take control of becomes an independent model. Thus:
    • It will not benefit from any bonuses that it gets from its comrades (such as Gang, Shield Wall, etc).
    • It will not benefit from any bonuses that rely on the trooper being "in formation" (such as Granted and Tactics abilities).
    • Spells on a unit are considered to be on the "unit", not on the "models that make up the unit". So a controlled trooper will not benefit from any spells on the unit.
    • If you take control of the last survivor of a unit then the "unit" ceases to exist for the duration of the control. This means that any spells on the "unit" will expire. Woo, free dispel! (Infernal Ruling)
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Eruption of Ash      (Edit)

  • If Eruption of Ash is on a magical weapon, then the initial attack can hurt an incorporeal model. However, the AOE that is put into play by the weapon is not magical and doesn't harm them.
  • Templates that do damage (Edit)   [Show/Hide]
    • Most templates that do damage to models that walk into them are defined as "Hazards" (such as Burning Ground) but there are a few that aren't Hazards (such as Creeping Barrage and Wall of Fire). The differences are:
      • A hazard is a terrain element
      • Damage from a hazard template is never considered to be from the model or weapon/spell that put it into play. So hazards never gain special rules of the weapon/spell (such as a Damage Type or Poison), nor does it gain special rules of the model (such as Hand of Fate).
      • Damage from a non-hazard template is considered to be from the model that put it in play. So non-hazards do get stuff like Hand of Fate. (Infernal Ruling)
      • Damage from a hazard is not from an attack (so won't trigger stuff like Vengeance)
      • Damage from a non-hazard is also not from an attack. Instead it will be a Special Action (Covering Fire), or a "instead of making an attack, place a template" (Creeping Barrage), or etc.

    • Damage templates from spells is complicated:
      • (Infernal Ruling)
      • Spells that leave templates that are not hazards (such as Razor Wall) do Damage Type: Magical.
      • Spells that leave templates that are hazards (such as Breath of Corruption) follow the rules for hazards, which are most likely not magical damage but it varies by the hazard.
      • The initial damage when you place the template, if any, is Damage Type: Magical.
      • For example, Breath of Corruption's initial POW 12 corrosion damage roll is Damage Type: Magical in addition to Damage Type: Corrosion. But the hazard that is put into play from Breath of Corruption is not Damage Type: Magical, just Damage Type: Corrosion.

    • By default, when you put a template into play it doesn't do damage to models they overlap. The exceptions are templates that are created by an AOE weapon, and templates that explicitly say they do damage when they're placed.
    • A model which is "placed" also counts as "entering" an area, so the template will damage any one who teleports/spawns into it, too.
    • If two templates are overlapping, a model that enters them will take two points of damage.
  • Hazardous Clouds (Edit)
    • A hazard, by definition, is a terrain effect. If a template is both a cloud and a hazard it will not block sprays as per the errata (2017.09) to spray attacks. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Rules Clarification : Thamar's Teeth - None yet. (Edit)
