Part necromancer and part evil genius - spiced with a dash of deranged lunatic - Lord Toruk's necrotechs blend talent and terror. Tasked with the details of constructing the undead soldiers and machines of the Cryxian army, they deliver steady reinforcements to the lines and do not hesitate to use their own dead flesh to test ingenious attachments and necromechanikal augmentations. Necrotechs improvise scrap thralls from heaps of bone and metal taken from corpses and destroyed 'jacks. Once animated, these thralls shamble forth as delivery vehicles for necrotite-enchanced bombs.

Undead - Create Scrap Thrall (★ Action) - When this model uses this ability remove one or more scrap tokens from this model, then roll a d3 for each scrap token removed. Add to play up to that number of Scrap Thrall placed completely within 3" of this model. A placed Scrap Thrall must forfeit its Combat Action the turn it is put into play.
- Repair [D6] (★ Action) - RNG B2B. Target friendly Faction construct model. If the model is in range, remove D6 damage points from it.
- Spare Parts - When a warjack is destroyed in this model's command range, it gains one scrap token. This model can have up to three scrap tokens at any time. Before making a repair roll, this model can spend one scrap token to add +2 to its roll.
- Steady - This model cannot become knocked down.
Thoughts on Necrotech
Comparison to Mk2
Repair does no longer require a skill check. Spare Parts is a new ability which allows a Necrotech to gather scrap tokens. Scrap tokens give a bonus to the Repair action. Create Scrap Thralls works now with scrap tokens and no longer with wreck markers.
Necrotech in a Nutshell
A Necrotech, while not a game-breaking solo by itself, is quite easy to fit in almost any list. It has a rock-bottom cost and comes with a free Scrap Thrall which can fool around and maybe serve as a mild distraction. Against moderate amounts of shooting a Necrotech is actually pretty valuable, as it can keep a 'jack fully functional even if the jack gets hit in exactly the wrong column. With some warcasters, the usefulness of a Necrotech goes up even more. Movement and positioning of a Necrotech is key so that he can repair a 'jack before it activates. Scrap Thralls are a very cheap option, but rarely used. They belong to the cheapest models in the game and this shows in their performance. If you need some cheap troops to cast spells on, or just like the idea of exploding troops, Scrap Thralls are your men.
Combos & Synergies
- Goreshade1 can use Soul Gate to teleport a warjack away from the front lines for repairs.
- Mortenebra can use Overrun to have a 'jack advance to a Necrotech for repairs, then advance right back to where it was.
- He's worth taking with a Colossal, to keep it running as long as possible.
- You can use them as Sacrificial Pawns for Terminus.
- Fuel for Goreshade2's feat.
- Fuel for Skarre1's Ritual Sacrifice spell.
Drawbacks & Downsides
- He's too slow to keep up with most Cryx jacks.
- Cryx jacks don't have enough durability to survive long enough to get repaired - if the enemy decides to kill a Cryx jack, it's going to die that turn. (Colossals excepted).
- When creating Scrap Thralls from a wreck, they can't activate and they have be placed nearby. Meaning your Necrotech is now standing in explosion range of at least one of them, more likely a couple. Also all of the Scrap Thralls are likely within explosion range of each other.
- You can't leave them too close to your own lines, because they'll get exploded by enemy ranged attacks. And Cryx infantry don't have enough ARM to survive random explosions.
- You can't leave them too close to each other, because they'll daisy chain with the explosion of one causing others to explode. Unless that was your plan.
- They're great against enemy low-ARM infantry, but typically such enemy infantry has enough SPD to simply avoid Scrappies.
- You can't use Death Burst on a free strike.
