First Mate Hawk
First Mate Hawk |
Prime This model is available in one Prime Army, Talion Charter. It can also be used in the Unlimited game mode. You can view the other Mk3 models that made it into a Legacy Army at this page. Note that the rest of this page is about the model's Mark III rules. |
Captain Shae's first mate Hawk is responsible for keeping her Sea Dogs ready for action, and she suffers neither fools nor sloth among the crew. She wields a pair of cutlasses, and few can boast to have lived after standing toe-to-toe with her. Hawk's example fires up the men who go to great lengths to catch even the slightest nod of her approval.

- Other Factions
- Mercenary models can be hired by other Factions. Normally those Factions' themes will have a limit on how many models they can hire. Refer to #Other Theme Forces, below.
- Aside from that, there are a few themes that will change what Faction this model counts as (and thus what "friendly Faction only" buffs it can receive). They are:
- Infernal players can use this model in the Hearts of Darkness theme, but only if Crosse2 is leading the army.
Thoughts on First Mate Hawk
First Mate Hawk in a Nutshell
First Mate Hawk is an extremely nimble melee solo that brings two P+S 9 weapon master cutlasses, while also supporting Sea Dogs by making them weapon masters against warrior models, which can either matter a lot if one faces lots of multiwound infantry or archons, or not at all if facing non-warrior models like Jacks, Warbeasts, Battle Engines, ect.
Thus her utility as a support solo is extremely reliant on the enemy army composition. However, she is also a SPD 7 solo with Parry, Relentless Charge, Sprint and Acrobatics, which means she can do some good work as a solo hunter and get around.
Combos & Synergies
- Sea Dog models, notably Press Gangers and Sea Dog Pirates get the most out of her buff.
- Notably Press Gangers become P+S 11 with Gang, with object of desire that's 21 damage on average, 25 on a charge.
- Anyone that buffs Privateer models such as Bosun Grogspar, Doc Killingsworth, Captain Phinneus Shae, and Lord Rockbottom.
- If you want to bring both Press Gangers and Hawk in other factions, don't forget to bring a ranking officer! Notably Mosby in CG who gives them +2 STR and Overtake (making them effectively P+S 13 weapon masters against warriors), or the Attendant Priest who ups their defense or turns their swords magic.
- The Talion Charter Theme gives her Sacrificial Pawn - and all the Sea Dogs she could ask for. Also take her for free in the theme - she's one of the most expensive options.
Drawbacks & Downsides
- Object of Desire does not work against warjacks, warbeasts, horrors, battle engines or structures, so sadly you won't turn lowly Sea Dogs into huge ARM Crackers.
- She only buffs Hand Weapon attacks specifically, meaning that models such as the Devil's Shadow Mutineers don't get her buff. However Swamp Gobber River Raiders with their ‘poisoned hand weapons’ will get the buff as it contains the key words - not that it’s much to write home about on a p+s 6 attack.
- While she's the hardest to kill out of all the Privateer solos she can still die to a stray blast.
- Even though she is fielded with them, Hawk isn't a Sea Dog, so she wont activate abilities such as Bloody Bradigan's Flank.
- in other factions without pirates Black Bella is the better investment.
Tricks & Tips
- Due to her high Speed stat, acrobatics, and finishing with a Sprint she can go open up nasty angles of attack as Fiona the Black's arc node. And can survive the Dark Ritual. Remember if you're behind an enemy they probably aren't engaging you so you can be channeled through.
- Object of Desire works best against heavy infantry and Archons. Use her for that or as a sprinting killer.
