This model is available in one Prime Army, Final Interdiction. It can also be used in the Unlimited game mode. You can view the other Mk3 models that made it into a Legacy Army at this page.

Note that the rest of this page is about the model's Mark III rules.

A decorated war hero of the Exemplar errants, Warder Elias Gade leads his team of pious knights on crucial missions into enemy territory. Operating far from the Protectorate of Menoth, Gade relies on a lifetime of battlefield experience and his unshakable faith to secure victory. The whistling of his blessed crossbow bolts have presaged the deaths of countless unbelievers, and by his hand many more will fall.

Abilities

  • AD symbol.jpg Advance Deployment
  • Pathfinder symbol.jpg Pathfinder
  • Call to Sacrifice [ Exemplar Errants ] - If this model is disabled by an enemy attack, you can choose a non-disabled friendly Exemplar Errants model within 5" of this model to be destroyed. If another model is destroyed as a result of Call to Sacrifice, remove 1 damage point from this model.
  • Prey - After deployment but before the first player's turn, choose an enemy model/unit to be this model/unit's prey. This model gains +2 to attack and damage rolls against its prey. When the prey is destroyed or removed from play, choose another model/unit to be the prey.
  • Quick Work - When this model destroys one or more enemy models with a melee attack during its Combat Action, immediately after the attack is resolved it can make one basic ranged attack.
  • Sniper - Instead of making a damage roll to resolve a ranged attack, this model can inflict 1 point of damage. A model disabled by a ranged attack made by this model cannot make a Tough roll.
  • True Sight - This model ignores cloud effects when determining LOS. This model also ignores Stealth.

Thoughts on Elias Gade

Elias Gade in a nutshell

Gade is a potent combat solo. With Advance Deployment, Pathfinder, Prey, Sniper, True Sight, and a pair of magical crossbows, both of which are rocking Weapon Master bayonets, the good Mister Gade is built for one thing: dealing death. Specifically, Gade deals death to his Prey no matter where they might try to hide and with terrifying accuracy. He is Exemplar Interdiction's tool for dealing with ranged stealth solos such as Eiryss.

Combos & Synergies

He requires little to no support from other Errants or even his warcaster. And is thus an auto include in both Exemplar Interdiction and Creator's Might, because he fill a niche no other model fills in those themes.

  • Exemplar Errants - Only available in Exemplar Interdiction, but they are a great at keeping him alive thanks to Call to Sacrifice.
  • The Exemplar Errant Seneschal gives him Unyielding, for all that is worth.
  • High Exemplar Gravus keeps him from getting knocked down or made stationary and can take his soul when he dies.
  • Severius0 can push his RAT to effective 10 (12 with aim) with two POW13 blessed shots against his Prey target. But even just RAt 8 against non-Prey targets is amazing. Which, when paired with True Sight, makes him a very efficient solo hunter. In return Gade is an excellent model to trigger Road to War with, thanks to Sniper.
  • Visgoth Juviah Rhoven & Honor Guard - If you ever encounter something with a defensive rule True Sight does not ignore, Rhoven can upgrade it to Eyeless Sight instead.

Caster synergies

  • High Exemplar Kreoss - He can pop his feat an knock down a bunch of models which Gade can pick of with his crossbows.
  • Grand Exemplar Kreoss - Give him Tough while in his command range
  • Grand Scrutator Severius - He also has Eye of Menoth for extra damage and accuracy, as well as Vision to keep him alive.
  • Feora, the Conquering Flame - Incite is best taken advantage of by guns, and obviously Gade has two of those! With Sevy0, that's a casual +3/+3 to his offences.
  • Feora the Forsaken - She is all about her tally of big hulking warjacks, so Elias is a great insurance she does not lose on scenario by being a fast scoring and contesting piece. Him triggering Road to War for her makes this combo even better.
  • Anson Durst, Rock of the Faith can get use out of him to unjam his jacks ad hold areas, while providing him increased survivability in return, ARM18 is not going to turn him into some unassailable tank, but it helps against blasts and bounces, it might save you one call to sacrifice and it's for free.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Outside of his Prey target, he doesn't hit that much harder than his Exemplar Errant brothers. He is purpose build to hunt Single Wound Infantry and solos, so unless you player on a lot of buffs, don't expect him to crack ARM.
  • His only survival mechanic outside of Creator's Might, where he gains Reposition, is killing models in units which tend to serve as your front line.

Tricks & Tips

  • Although he's mainly a ranged combat solo, he's still a weapon master in melee and hits as hard as a Knight Exemplar in melee against his Prey target - he can do a surprising amount of damage on the charge (although don't expect him to live through the next turn if you do so).

Other

Trivia

  • Released in an Insider article 2017.10
  • Didn't go through CID before his initial launch.
  • During the Exemplar CID, he was given Desperate Pace, but before the end of the cycle, it was replaced by Sniper.

Rules Clarifications

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification:  : Magical Damage      (Edit)
(Click Expand to read)

* The "Damage Type: Magical" is not inherited by "secondary" damage from a weapon. That is, stuff like arcs (Electro Leap) or hazards (Scather). (Infernal Ruling)
  • All spells have "Damage Type: Magical" (refer errata).
    • This is inherited by "immediate" secondary damage (such as Eruption of Spines). (Infernal Ruling)
    • and might be inherited by "lingering" secondary damage (see below).
  • If a spell leaves a template in play that does damage to models that walk around in it, then:
    • if it is not described as a hazard it will do magical damage to models that walk around in it. (Example: Razor Wall)
    • if it is a hazard then it will not do magical damage to models that walk around in it. Instead, it does whatever damage type is specified by the spell description. (Example: Breath of Corruption).
    • (Infernal Ruling)
  • If a weapon/spell includes Magic Damage and another kind of elemental damage it will still damage Incorporeal models. Incorporeal models are not affected by the rule "if an attack does multiple types of damage and a model is immune to at least one it is immune to the entire attack."
The phrase "immune to non-magical damage" should be interpreted as "immune to damage that doesn't include Damage Type: Magical" (not interpreted as "has immunity to Corrosion and Electricity and Cold and etc.")

Rules Clarification : Blessed and/or Creator's Wrath     (Edit)

  • Blessed ignores spell buffs even if they're not directly on the target. (For example, Haley3's Temporal Distortion spell is cast on Haley and gives a DEF buff to everyone within 5". Blessed ignores it on everyone, not just on Haley.) (Locked thread)
  • You only ignore the DEF/ARM buff if the spell directly adds to the stat (for example Arcane Shield gives +3 ARM).
Whereas a spell which grants an ability, and the ability gives a DEF/ARM buff, would not be ignored by Blessed (for example Cloak of Ash gives a model concealment, and concealment gives +2 DEF).
(Infernal Ruling)
  • If a spell buffs DEF/ARM and [something else] then you ignore the buff but not the [something else]. (For example, the spell Death Ward grants +2 ARM and the defender chooses which column suffers damage. You would ignore the ARM bonus, but the defender still picks the column.)
  • This ability only ignores buffs from spells, not buffs from feats (such as Stryker1's Invincibility +5 ARM) or abilities (such as Protective Aura's +2 ARM).

Rules Clarification : Weapon Master - None yet. (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Advance Deployment      (Edit)

  • Sometimes you can attach a WA or CA that doesn't have AD to a unit that does have AD. If you do, the attachment effectively gains AD and they can all advance deploy together. (Locked Thread)
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Quick Work      (Edit)

  • If you're still engaged in melee when Quick Work triggers, you won't be able to make the ranged attack.
  • Quick Work specifies "Combat Action" so doesn't work with Impact Attacks or out-of-activation attacks
  • Attack-Generating Abilities (Edit)
    • From the core rulebook: When a model is granted more attacks as a result of an attack it made, it gains only one. If two or more special rules would grant the model another attack as a result of making an attack, its controlling player chooses which special rule to apply.
    • If you trigger two attack-generating abilities (such as Black Spot and Kill Shot) you choose to resolve one and "lose" the other (unless you trigger it again later).
    • If you trigger two attack-generating abilities, and one of them is compulsory (such as Black Spot and Berserk), you must choose to resolve the compulsory one. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Pathfinder      (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Call to Sacrifice      (Edit)

  • This ability is optional.
  • This ability will be blocked by "anti-heal" effects (such as Grievous Wounds or Entropic Force).
  • This ability will not trigger if the model is disabled by damage rolls not coming from an ennemy attack (like Electro Leap, a continuous effect, or a friendly attack).
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Leadership      (Edit)

  • If you have two Leaders handing out the same buff, then sometimes they stack (Bronzeback) and sometimes they don't (Exemplar Bastion). (Infernal Ruling)
    • See specific models for case-by-case Infernal Rulings.
  • If you have two Leaders handing out different buffs (such as Iona's Leadership giving Dodge, and the Wolf Rider Champion's Leadership giving Prowl) then the benefits do stack - they'll get both Dodge and Prowl. (Infernal Ruling)
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Prey      (Edit)

  • When you declare your Prey target, it has to be used on a model that is currently on the table. You can't use it on models that are in Ambush, Burrow, etc. (Infernal Ruling)
  • If you have both Prey and Ambush, then you declare your Prey target at the normal time (even though the Prey-er isn't currently on the table). (Infernal Ruling)
  • Prey bonuses apply to "non-attack" damage, such as Electro Leap. (Infernal Ruling)
  • If you hit your Prey target, but your attack is "shifted" to a non-Prey model (via Shield Guard etc) then you don't get the damage bonus vs the new target.
  • If a model with Prey can return to play, then:
    • If the Prey target is still alive when the Prey-er returns, then it stays as your Prey target.
    • If the Prey target died while the Prey-er was off the table, you get to pick a new Prey target when you return to play.
    • This is based on a MK II ruling.
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Sniper      (Edit)

  • If you choose to do 1 point of damage, this is still considered to be damage "from an attack" for the purposes of Vengeance etc. (Locked thread)
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : True Sight      (Edit)

  • You only ignore clouds for LOS. Models can still get the concealment bonus, trigger Prowl, etc from clouds. (Infernal Ruling)
  • A model that ignores Stealth must ignore both aspects: both (1) the auto-missing, and (2) the 'not counting as an intervening model' parts.
    • This can have some strange interactions with casters & channelers, if one has True Sight and one does not. There are examples on the Category:Channeler page.
