How usable this model is in Mk IV depends on the Faction:
  • Retribution: This model can be used in Shadows of Retribution Prime army, and/or Unlimited.
  • Mercenary: This model is not (yet) available to this Faction in Mk IV in any shape or form (as of 2023.06)

You can view the Mk3 models that made it into a Legacy Army at this page.
Note that the rest of this page is about the model's Mark III rules.

Loyal only to her own convictions, the Mage Hunter character sells her sword and crossbow to any army that provides an opportunity to eliminate a Warcaster from her world.

Understanding
the Statblock

Mercenary - This model will work for Cygnar, Khador, Protectorate, or as a Retribution.

  • PartisanRetribution of Scyrah ] - When included in a Retribution of Scyrah army, this model/unit is a Retribution of Scyrah model/unit instead of a Mercenary model/unit.

Abilities

Weapons

  • Crossbow - 12" range, POW 10 ranged attack
    • Magical dam symbol.jpg Damage Type: Magical
    • Attack Type - Each time this weapon is used to make an attack, choose one of the following special rules:
      • Deadly Shot - Instead of making a damage roll to resolve an attack with this weapon, you can choose to have a model hit by this weapon suffer 3 damage points instead. A model disabled by this attack cannot make a Tough roll.
      • Disruptor Bolt - A model hit loses all focus and fury points. A model with the Focus Manipulation special rule that is hit does not replenish focus points next turn. A warjack hit suffers Disruption.
      • Phantom Seeker - This model ignores LOS, concealment, and cover when making ranged attacks.
  • Bayonet - 0.5" reach, P+S 6 melee attack
    • Damage Type: Magical - As above.
  • Saber - 0.5" reach, P+S 7 melee attack
    • Damage Type: Magical - As above.

Theme Forces

  • Other Factions
    • As a Mercenary model she can go in a bunch of themes for other Factions. Refer to #Other Theme Forces.

Thoughts on Eiryss1

Eiryss1 in a nutshell

She's a ranged combat solo of extreme quality; she brings good damage output, board control, and utility.

Her Disruptor Bolt ends games if you get it on an enemy caster, and also keeps warjacks in check. Death Bolt is a handy finishing move that also lets her kill high ARM infantry despite her POW 10 crossbow. Phantom Seeker lets her shoot those hard to reach solos who think they're safe. Almost every turn, she will be doing something useful.

Combos & Synergies

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Shield Guard stops her. If the enemy keeps a single shield guard back to protect their caster she's almost neutralised until you remove said guardian.
    • She was one of the nastiest Mercenary solo choice back in Mk2. Even without anti-shooting defensive techs enemies tend to know her pretty well and have a plan to dispatch her before she causes trouble.
  • She costs as much as a Talon or Buccaneer but has nowhere near the resilience or damage potential of a light warjack.
  • She can never be a free option, and many solos in her points class, such as Scythe outclass her.

Tricks & Tips

  • Don't let her get too far forward, unless you like seeing her die.
  • By placing her opposite the enemy caster, she can dictate where that caster feels 'safe' moving to.
  • While only warjacks suffer disruption, Disruptor Bolt can still be useful against hordes factions. Stripping fury from hordes beasts can be useful to force the enemy warlock to cut, or to prevent them from reaving fury.
  • Keep an eye out for other models that store fury or focus such as the krielstone bearer, celestial fulcrum, forsaken, corollary, hydra, or cephalyx monstrosities.

Other

Trivia

Super Limited Edition sculpt
  • Released way back in Warmachine: Prime (2003)
  • Eiryss has a super limited edition sculpt, where players had to collect 3 "prize tickets" from three specific No Quarter magazines published in the mid 2000s, and post them to PP to claim the sculpt.
PP honoured this promotion for over 15 years, whenever a player found old magazines in secondhand bookshops etc, but PP were forced to stop in 2021 because the casting mold wore out and then their backlog ran out.

Rules Clarifications

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification:  : Magical Damage      (Edit)
(Click Expand to read)

* The "Damage Type: Magical" is not inherited by "secondary" damage from a weapon. That is, stuff like arcs (Electro Leap) or hazards (Scather). (Infernal Ruling)
  • All spells have "Damage Type: Magical" (refer errata).
    • This is inherited by "immediate" secondary damage (such as Eruption of Spines). (Infernal Ruling)
    • and might be inherited by "lingering" secondary damage (see below).
  • If a spell leaves a template in play that does damage to models that walk around in it, then:
    • if it is not described as a hazard it will do magical damage to models that walk around in it. (Example: Razor Wall)
    • if it is a hazard then it will not do magical damage to models that walk around in it. Instead, it does whatever damage type is specified by the spell description. (Example: Breath of Corruption).
    • (Infernal Ruling)
  • If a weapon/spell includes Magic Damage and another kind of elemental damage it will still damage Incorporeal models. Incorporeal models are not affected by the rule "if an attack does multiple types of damage and a model is immune to at least one it is immune to the entire attack."
The phrase "immune to non-magical damage" should be interpreted as "immune to damage that doesn't include Damage Type: Magical" (not interpreted as "has immunity to Corrosion and Electricity and Cold and etc.")

Rules Clarification : Attack Type and/or Arcane Savant     (Edit)

  • If you forget to declare your Attack Type before rolling the attack, and you and your opponent can't agree on a fair fix, then the Judge's Policy is that the first listed Attack Type is the one that will be used.
  • If your target can only be targeted by certain kinds of attack (ie a Menoth warjack with Passage), you can first choose the correct Attack Type (ie Magical Damage vs Passage) and then that allows you to target it. The Attack Type selection and target declaration both occur at Step 1 (Refer Appendix A). (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Deadly Shot - None yet. (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Disruptor Bolt      (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Disruption      (Edit)

  • If a model is disrupted, it cannot get focus for any reason. Whether the rule says 'allocate', 'gain', 'receive' or 'give' ... Disruption stops it all. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Despite being unable to channel spells, a warjack can still be the target of spells just fine.
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Phantom Seeker      (Edit)

  • Ignore LOS (Edit)
    • Since you ignore LOS, you can target models in your back arc. (Infernal Ruling)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Advance Deployment      (Edit)

  • Sometimes you can attach a WA or CA that doesn't have AD to a unit that does have AD. If you do, the attachment effectively gains AD and they can all advance deploy together. (Locked Thread)
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Pathfinder      (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Stealth      (Edit)

  • Stealth models are not invisible and you can target them - you'll just auto-miss most of the time.
  • You can target them with a charge.
  • You can target them with an AOE, have it auto-miss and scatter, luckily land on top of them anyway, and that will hit them.
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification:  : Partisan      (Edit)
(Click Expand to read)

Which Faction am I?
  • Partisans are Mercenary (or Minion) models unless they're taken in their "Home" Faction. For example, a Mercenary model that is Partisan [Cygnar]:
    • When used in most armies it is "friendly Faction" only to other Mercenary models.
    • When used in a Cygnar army it is "friendly Faction" to Cygnar models ... and stops being "friendly Faction" to any other Mercenaries in that Cygnar army.
  • In a multi-caster game, Partisans count as the main army's Faction and not as a Mercenary models (if playing a Faction other than Mercaneries). (Infernal Ruling)

Attachments

  • If a Partisan unit can get a special attachment from their Partisan Faction (for instance a Soulless Escort or Trollkin Sorcerer) then they can only get that attachment when they're in the Partisan Faction. They can't take it when working as a regular Mercenary. (Locked thread)
  • When taken in their Partisan Faction, they can't have a Ranking Officer attached.

Partisan warcasters

  • If you have a Partisan caster, you must choose whether your army is a Mercenary force or a [Partisan Faction] force. What warjacks the caster can take are then limited by your choice.
  • Partisan casters can be taken in [Partisan Faction] theme forces. Refer to the main rulebook.
  • Partisan casters can be fielded in multiple-caster games. (Locked thread)
See also the Category: Partisan for what happens if you mix and match Partisan casters and Merc casters in multi-caster games.

Partisans & Theme Forces (Edit)

  • Partisans are Mercenary/Minion models, so there are two ways you can add them to a theme force:
    1. Freely: If the Partisan is on the list of allowed models, then you can take as many as you want plus another Mercenary unit/solo. (Infernal Ruling)
They can be explicitly allowed (for example Jaws of the Wolf allows "Kayazy models/units" so Partisan Kayayz can be used freely).
They can be implicitly allowed (for example Scourge of the Broken Coast allows "living Cryx models/units" and Partisan Cephalyx fit that criteria, so they can be used freely). (Infernal Ruling)
    2. Limited: If the Partisan isn't on the list of allowed models, it does use up your "Up to one Mercenary/Minion" slot, so you can only have the one.
  • Whether you used option 1 or 2 above, once they're in your theme force they count as a Faction model and so:
    • They can be taken as a Requistion Option (if they fit the Requistion description).
For example Lanyssa can be taken as a free solo in the Legion of Dawn theme. (Infernal Ruling)
    • They will get any theme benefit that they fit the description for.
For example Storm Division gives all Cygnar models Immunity Electricity, so Partisan Mercs in that theme get immunity too.
For example Nemo4's Mechaniks get Reposition [3] in Heavy Metal. (Infernal Ruling)
