Prime This model is available in one Prime Army, Army of the Western Reaches. It can also be used in the Unlimited game mode. You can view the other Mk3 models that made it into a Legacy Army at this page. Note that the rest of this page is about the model's Mark III rules. |
With exaltation a remote hope at best, the ruthless warriors of the Venator caste take to the field for survival and victory instead. Relentless and cunning, Venator dakars are stern leaders with exacting standards. Under the watchful eye of a dakar, other Venators march quickly and take precise aim, proving they are every bit as skilled in dealing death as the more respected warriors of the skorne.

Thoughts on Venator Dakar
Venator Dakar in a nutshell
A new model in Mk3, the Venator Dakar is a ranged support solo, making artillery faster and all Venators more accurate while carrying an effective solo-hunting gun of its own. As a rule of thumb the Dakar is almost certainly worth it with an artillery piece and a unit in play - and probably worth it with either two artillery pieces or a full unit.
In melee the Dakar is nothing more than a standard Venator grunt while costing almost 3 times more. So it really can’t afford to get bogged down and needs to use Veteran Leader and it’s gun/abilities while sitting back out of danger..
Combos & Synergies
Typically Skorne lacks ranged support but has some great debuff caster like Rasheth and Morghoul2.
- Venator Catapult Crew 2" extra movement might not sound like much. But giving the catapult crew an effective 24" threat range can be pretty impressive for an unexpected turn 1 bombardment.
- Venator Flayer Cannon Crew +1 to hit and either +2 movement or the ability to reroll can be really useful.
- Venator Reivers and Venator Slingers both benefit from the Veteran Leader ability. A boost to hit can be really useful especially with the placement of Venators on the bell curve.
- Winds of Death is basically inviting you to use Dakars. They even buff other Venator Dakars when taken in multiples
Drawbacks & Downsides
- On its own it isn't worth it (as should be obvious from having three buff abilities)
- If you're just running Venator Reivers get the unit attachment first. It does more - and even gives more accuracy than the Dakar.
- Combat Coordination affects only a single model, meaning it's probably only useful on an artillery piece. It may also help this one important Combined Attack not disappoint.
Tricks & Tips
- Moving an artillery piece into range can be worth more than the Dakar himself shooting.
