Prime
This model is available in one Prime Army, Storm Knights. It can also be used in the Unlimited game mode. You can view the other Mk3 models that made it into a Legacy Army at this page.

Note that the rest of this page is about the model's Mark III rules.

Dreyfus dreamed of joining the ranks of the storm knights, but was never able to make muster before the Infernals invaded and the military forces of Cygnar had all fallen. After taking note of all the remaining storm knight equipment among the fields of fallen, he was determined that the legacy of the storm knight would not be lost and took up the cause to defend the people of the Iron Kingdoms. He lacks formal training and skips leg day, but he's got passion.

Riot Quest - Although this model has rules which allow it to be played in Warmachine and Hordes, it was primarily designed for the Riot Quest boardgame. RQ is set in an alternate and/or future timeline where the Infernals won the war. Some of the RQ models are slightly more goofy than their WMH equivalents.

Abilities

  • Electricity Imm symbol.jpg Immunity: Electricity
  • Flank [ Friendly Warrior ] - When this model makes a melee attack against an enemy model in the melee range of a friendly friendly warrior model, this model gains +2 to attack rolls and gains an additional damage die.
  • Jump - After it makes a full advance during its Normal Movement but before it performs its Combat Action, you can place this model anywhere completely within 5" of its current location. Any effects that prevent charging also prevent this model from using Jump.
  • Roadblock - This model provides cover to friendly models as if it were an obstacle. This model loses Roadblock while it is incorporeal or knocked down.

  • Electro Leap - When a model is directly hit with a basic attack made with this weapon, you can have lightning arc to the nearest model within 4" of the the model hit, ignoring the attacking model. The model the lightning arcs to suffers an unboostable POW 10 electrical damage roll. Lightning arc damage rolls are not considered to have been caused by an attack. Resolve lightning arc damage rolls simultaneously with the damage resulting from the attack that caused the leap.

Thoughts on the Sir Dreyfus the Storm Knight

Sir Dreyfus the Storm Knight in a nutshell

Sir Dreyfus is a high armor, high mobility combat solo that has limited utility in providing cover. He can perform a variety of roles because of the quality of base stats and ability to get in the back arc of enemy models. Among these, the simplest would be providing power up focus for a stormclad in a Storm Division list while acting as a bodyguard for Arlan or stormsmiths. However he can also act on a flank to assassinate troublesome solos, jump in the back arc of a jammed enemy warnoun to make trampling a painful decision, or be a troublesome brick in a most awkward place under Stryker1's feat.

Combos & Synergies

  • As all storm knights, he provides a power up focus to the Stormclad
  • Flank benefits well with any warrior model that has longer reach - Stormlances, Laddermore, and even the Stormguard units work well in that respect. With a nearby warrior model and jumping in the back arc, he reaches mat 11 quite easily. Any additional nearby aura buffs like positive charge put him hitting most warcasters on anything but double 1s, but the practicality of this is mainly limited to being cheeky to your opponent.
  • Under Captain Allison Jakes feat any warrior model will have 2" melee.
  • High stats and a gun allow him to work with any buff available in Cygnar, though he isn't often the best target.
  • Lieutenant Allison Jakes has parry so can easily get to a position to support for flank.
  • With being able to jump in the back arc he can easily combo with anything to create difficult positioning decisions for the opponent, which is a solid strength during clock play.
  • Maddox stacking her feat with flank on the charge let’s Dreyfus really trade up in melee. 1 pow 17 4 damage dice lance and a pow12 3 damage dice shield can really hurt lights and dent heavies.
  • Stryker2 has deceleration makes him armour 21 at range and in melee and positive charge + his feat does a lot for combat solos
  • Stryker1 has 1 amazing turn with him being armour 26 in melee which becomes annoying when coupled with cover to his allies.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Mostly a beefy combat solo, utility is limited compared to other free options.
  • Model has chicken legs, which is a cartoony aesthetic that puts some players off. He is also only available in a set of 5 models so he isn’t great on your wallet if you do not plan to play Riot Quest.
  • Cover from Roadblock isn’t as strong as it looks on paper especially when looking after other infantry models, as you need to be within 1 inch of Dreyfus to get the bonus - meaning you are susceptible to blast damage - or you can trigger it by partly blocking LOS - which is just as dependant on your opponents position as it is yours.
  • A Stormblade Captain costs costs one point less, is usually harder to kill under iron Sentinel 15/18 (20) and 5 boxes vs 13/19 (21) and 8, it’s easier for the captain to hit harder on his main weapon as a weapon master vs Dreyfus’ flank and tactician is often far more useful than roadblock for Stormblades, plus the option for Desperate Pace on the approach. To get value out of Dreyfus you need to utilise his mobility, his arm 21 in melee and his accuracy when fighting with a friend.

Tricks & Tips

  • Try to place him in a back arc position where he isn't too exposed to other enemy models - with only def 13 and a shield his own back arc is vulnerable as well.
  • Remember you can't charge and jump, so there's decision making to choose between +2 to accuracy on all attacks vs +1 dice and +2 pow on the charge. You also can't jump anytime that you can't perform a full advance.
  • His Flank is not limited to friendly faction models, so he can flank with a merc model.

Rules Clarifications

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Electricity      (Edit)

  • When electricity arcs/leaps, you ignore models with Immunity:Electricity. The arc "skips" them.
  • If you attack a model with Immunity:Electricity, the arc/leap won't go anywhere at all. The arc is "grounded".
  • Incorporeal models do not have Immunity: Electricity (they just ignore non-magical damage). As such electricity can arc/leap to and from incorporeal models.
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Flank      (Edit)

  • You can gain the Flank bonus vs knocked down/stationary models (refer to the latest Errata).
  • Melee range is measured from your front arc so you cannot trigger Flank on models in your back arc.
  • The target enemy doesn't need to be in the Flanker's LOS, just their melee range.
    • Most of the time if something is in your melee range then it is so close it's in your LOS too, and the difference is meaningless.
    • But if you have 2" reach and you're jammed up in B2B with a bunch of closely-spaced enemies, you'll find your LOS is blocked. In this case, you might be able to trigger Flank on an enemy model that is "hiding" behind that front row of jammers, even though you don't have LOS to it.
  • Flank is not tied to a specific weapon, so Mount attacks and Power Attacks can benefit as well.
  • If you have two sources of Flank they are still giving you the bonus from the Flank rule so do not stack. (Infernal Ruling)
  • If the target moves in/out of the Flanker's melee range between the attack roll and the damage roll (for instance if you throw it) then you need to reassess whether you get the Flank bonus for the damage roll. (Infernal Ruling)
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Bounding Leap and/or Jump and/or Leap     (Edit)

  • You cannot use this ability if you forfeit your movement, because "After making a full advance" is a conditional requirement. (Infernal Ruling)
  • You can only use this ability after a full advance, which means you can't do it after a Slam, Trample, or Charge.
  • You can use "At any time" abilities between completing your move and doing the Jump/Leap. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Jumps & Leaps are a "placement". They do not trigger free strikes, and you can even jump over solid buildings of infinite height.
  • If you cannot advance more than 0" (for example suffering from Shadow Bind) then you can Jump/Leap. Making an advance of 0" is sufficient to trigger Jump/Leap.
  • Jump only
You cannot use Jump if you are suffering "any effect which prevents charging". So...
    • If you forfeit your Normal Movement, you cannot Jump. (For the same reason as given above.)
    • If you forfeit your Combat Action, you cannot Jump. (Infernal Ruling)
    • If you "cannot make attacks" (such as with Morvahna1's feat), you cannot charge, therefore cannot Jump. (Locked Thread)
  • Unit with Jump
    • Complete all the models' Normal Movement before starting any Jumps. Then do all Jumps (that you can do and/or want to do) before starting any Combat Actions. (Infernal Ruling)
    • Models in a unit can Jump even if they don't receive a Press Forward order (failing to be told to charge is not the same as being prevented from charging). (Infernal Ruling)
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Roadblock      (Edit)

  • A Roadblock model does not count as intervening terrain for melee attacks.
  • A model does not provide Roadblock itself. A model cannot be an intervening model to itself. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Shadow Fire vs Roadblock (Edit)
    • If you use Shadow Fire vs a Roadblock model then the Roadblock will still grant cover to nearby models; even though you can "see right through it".
    • Because the rule for getting cover from an obstacle is simply: does a line pass between the attacker and target that goes over/through the obstacle? Is the target within 1" of the obstacle on that same line?
    • In other words, whether the obstacle actually blocks LOS or not isn't relevant.

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Electro Leap      (Edit)

  • Electro Leaps are optional.
  • Electro Leap is a weapon property. As such, it doesn't apply to Power Attacks at all.
  • A Steamroller flag can be hit by Electro Leap (if it's the nearest model). (Infernal Ruling)
  • Not considered an attack & "Non-attack damage roll" (Edit)   [Show/Hide]
    • There are two ways you can get these "non-attack" damage rolls.
      • Type 1 - A secondary damage roll that is not considered to be an attack. Some attacks create a second damage roll that is explicitly "not considered an attack" (such as Electro Leap).
(Note that although the secondary damage roll is not an attack, the original attack certainly is and will trigger stuff normally. These clarifications don't apply to the original attack.)
      • Type 2 - A damage roll that's not from an attack. Some special abilities & special actions tell you to make a damage roll without mentioning whether it is considered an attack or not (such as Vent Steam and Flak Field).
    • When it comes to other abilities that trigger on damage (such as Vengeance) both types function the same way. For brevity we'll refer to both as "Pure Damage".

    • Pure damage is not an attack, so doesn't trigger stuff like Vengeance.
    • Pure damage is not an attack, so doesn't benefit from stuff that affects 'attack damage rolls' (such as Bethayne1's feat). (Infernal Ruling)
    • Pure damage (normally) doesn't actually hit the model(s) it damages, so doesn't trigger stuff like Shock Field. (A few of them do specify they hit, though, like Warhead.)
    • Pure damage is not from an attack, but it is (normally) damage from the original model. This has two implications:
      1. It's not an attack from a weapon so:
        • it won't gain damage buffs from the weapon (such as Poison).
        • it won't gain any Damage Types from the weapon. (Infernal Ruling)
      2. It is a damage roll from a model so:
    • Exception: Some damage is not from an attack and not from a model (for example, Collateral damage). In this case, you should reverse the stuff listed under #2 above.
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Powerful Charge  and/or Brutal Charge     (Edit)

  • If you declare a charge but move less than 3", then the attack doesn't count as a "Charge Attack" and you won't get the bonus.
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Disruption      (Edit)

  • If a model is disrupted, it cannot get focus for any reason. Whether the rule says 'allocate', 'gain', 'receive' or 'give' ... Disruption stops it all. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Despite being unable to channel spells, a warjack can still be the target of spells just fine.
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Shield and/or Buckler     (Edit)

  • The only time you lose the Shield bonus is when the weapon is crippled, or if the attack originates in your back arc. (Infernal Ruling)
    • In other words, you still get the Shield bonus while knocked down or stationary.
  • You don't get the Shield bonus vs stuff originating in your back arc. This includes stuff that "leaps" off models in your back arc, such as Electro Leap. (Locked thread)
