How usable this model is in Mk IV depends on the Faction:
  • Crucible Guard: This model can be used in the Prime army and/or the Unlimited mode.
  • Mercenary: This model can only be used in the Unlimited mode.

You can view the Mk3 models that made it into a Legacy Army at this page.
Note that the rest of this page is about the model's Mark III rules.

Armed with a mace large enough to crush a man in a single stroke and potent alchemical compounds derived from formulas known to only a few, Hutchuck possesses a combination of brute force and adaptability that makes him one of the most sought-after bounty hunters operating within the Iron Kingdoms. Hutchuck offers his services only to those with deep pockets.

Mercenary - This model will work for Crucible Guard, Cygnar, or Khador.

  • PartisanCrucible Guard ] - When included in a Crucible Guard army, this model/unit is a Crucible Guard model/unit instead of a Mercenary model/unit.

Minion - This model will work for Circle, Skorne, or Trollbloods.

Weapons

  • Alchemical Grenades - 8" range, 3" AOE, POW 12 ranged attack
    • Attack Type - Each time this weapon is used to make an attack, choose one of the following special rules:
      • Brain Damage - A model damaged by an attack with this weapon cannot cast spells for one round.
      • Quake - On a direct hit against an enemy model, all models hit are knocked down.
      • Rust - This attack causes no damage. Instead, constructs hit suffer –2 ARM for one turn.
  • Mace - 2" reach, P+S 14 melee attack

Abilities

  • Tough symbol.jpg Tough
  • Alchemical Mask - This model does not suffer gas effects. When determining LOS or resolving attacks, this model ignores cloud effects and concealment granted from cloud effects.
  • Ambush - You can choose not to deploy this model at the start of the game. If it is not deployed normally, you can put it into play at the end of any of your Control Phases after your first turn. When you do, choose any table edge except the back of your opponent's deployment zone. Place this model completely within 3" of the chosen table edge.
  • Take Down - Models disabled by a melee attack made by this model cannot make a Tough roll. Models boxed by a melee attack made by this model are removed from play.
  • Wild Shot - This model can make one basic ranged attack during its activation before its Normal Movement. If it does, it can use its Combat Action only to make melee attacks that activation.

Theme Forces

  • Other Factions
    • Trollblood players can use this model in the Vengeance of Dhunia theme.
    • Furthermore, Mercenary/Minion models can be hired by other Factions. Normally those Factions' themes will have a limit on how many models they can hire. Refer to #Other Theme Forces, below.

Thoughts on Hutchuk, Ogrun Bounty Hunter

Hutchuk, Ogrun Bounty Hunter in a nutshell

Hutchuck is a hybrid combat and support solo who prefers to ambush, then lob a grenade and charge if he can. It forces your opponent to be pretty cautious around the board edges. As a free solo, he's pretty good, but he faces stiff competition in the mercenaries faction.

In Crucible Guard his value really comes through, Rust works well as an alternative to Withering Humor for constructs and the faction has plenty of layered buffs and debuffs, being allowed in either theme and being an expensive Requisition option makes him one of the best first purchases for the faction.

Combos & Synergies

In Mercenaries

  • He works well with a unit/model that like to be on the flank, such as Croe's Cutthroats. If the enemy come towards the flank to deal with those guys, Hutchuk can ambush them.
  • He works well with other ambushing models to setup a one-two punch, with Hutchuk applying Rust or knock down before the other ambush model(s) activate and attack the same model.

In Crucible Guard

  • Baldwin offers deceleration to push his armour into ‘difficult to remove’ territory and his feat makes landing the quake shot for an assassination easier.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • He dies pretty fast after he ambushes so make it count.
  • Quake only knocks down models on a direct hit, and Hutchuk has a hard time getting a direct hit against models with even moderately high DEF unless he can get behind them.

Tricks & Tips

  • Wild Shot lets Hutchuck throw a bomb and then charge something - effectively a more versatile assault, though Assault gets the projectile farther down range
  • Brain damage stops spells and animi, Quake must directly hit an enemy model to knock down. Rust now works on all constructs. Plan ahead.
  • To get the most out of Hutchuk, be realistic about his survivability and what he can reasonably accomplish. If you bring him in on ambush with no protection to attempt a low-odds caster knockdown/brain damage or to take out a DEF 15+ solo, he is probably going to accomplish nothing and die. However, if you can, for example, bring him in behind terrain to contest a zone or flag, or to kill a low-DEF unit CA or solo, or to knockdown or rust a low-DEF warjack/beast, then he might get some things done and even survive a few turns. Don't expect your opponent to give you any good targets, though.
  • The threat of an ambushing Hutchuk and the threat of his attacks often have more impact on the game than actually making any attacks with him.

Other

Trivia

  • Hutchuk appeared briefly in The Malcontents Book One: Into the Storm, by Larry Correia and was originally an IKRPG character created by his son.

Rules Clarifications

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Attack Type and/or Arcane Savant     (Edit)

  • If you forget to declare your Attack Type before rolling the attack, and you and your opponent can't agree on a fair fix, then the Judge's Policy is that the first listed Attack Type is the one that will be used.
  • If your target can only be targeted by certain kinds of attack (ie a Menoth warjack with Passage), you can first choose the correct Attack Type (ie Magical Damage vs Passage) and then that allows you to target it. The Attack Type selection and target declaration both occur at Step 1 (Refer Appendix A). (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Brain Damage - None yet. (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Quake      (Edit)

  • If the weapon misses, then it will deviate and do blast damage as per a normal AOE (assuming it has a POW to begin with).
  • Other effects of the attack will still occur (such as the Mitigator's auto-point of damage to all models hit).
  • Knockdown (Edit) - Remember, knockdown only prevents what it says it does. Refer to the Knockdown page for a recap of what a model can/can't do.

Rules Clarification : Rust - None yet. (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Tough - None yet. (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Alchemical Mask      (Edit)

  • Although a "hazardous cloud" (such as Breath of Corruption) sounds like it would be a gas, it isn't and you don't ignore it. Stuff is gas only if it says it's gas.
  • Alchemical Mask ignores clouds for LOS and the +2 DEF concealment bonus, but a target in a cloud still 'has' concealment so the target can get Prowl to work. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Alchemical Mask does not ignore Syvestro's "Super Stealth" that he gets via Impenetrable Haze. (Infernal Ruling)
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Ambush      (Edit)

  • If you attach a WA or CA to this unit, and the attachment doesn't have Ambush, then they all get to Ambush anyway. (Locked Thread)
  • Ambush and Apparition both occur at Step 5 of the Control Phase. However, Ambush specifies the "end" of the Control Phase so you cannot use Apparition on a model that Ambushes. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Declaring Ambush:
    • Choosing whether a unit deploys normally or ambushes needs to happen before deployment.
So it goes: do the starting roll, Player 2 chooses sides, Player 1 declares Ambushes (if any), then Player 2 declares Ambushes (if any), then Player 1 starts deployment. (Infernal Ruling)
    • If you have both Prey and Ambush, then you declare your Prey target at the normal time (even though the Prey-er isn't currently on the table). (Infernal Ruling)
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Take Down      (Edit)

  • If you have Take Down innately, then the RFP is not optional.
  • If you have Take Down granted by a theme force benefit, then the RFP is optional.
    • If you choose to RFP at boxed, you don't get to trigger anything that happens at destroyed (such as Cleave).
    • If you choose not to RFP them, they're destroyed normally. They produce corpses, can be returned to play, etc, and most importantly you can trigger stuff at "destroyed" (such as Cleave).
  • Technically the theme benefit doesn't actually grant models Take Down, it just gives them a rule with almost the exact same wording as Take Down.
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Wild Shot      (Edit)

  • You can still charge after using Wild Shot.
