Prime
This model is available in one Prime Army, Legions of Dawn. It can also be used in the Unlimited game mode. You can view the other Mk3 models that made it into a Legacy Army at this page.

Note that the rest of this page is about the model's Mark III rules.

Ranking above captains and thanes, scyirs are trusted to lead large, mixed task forces that include all branches of their own order as well as other warriors of the Retribution. Most are sons and daughters of nobility who have proven themselves to be the elite of the elite, the pinnacle of Dawnguard martial coordination, with tremendous skill at coordinating myrmidons alongside their subordinate soldiers.

Abilities

  • 'Jack Marshal symbol.jpg 'Jack Marshal
  • Righteous Vengeance - If one or more friendly Faction warrior models were destroyed or removed from play by enemy attacks while within 5" of this model during the last round, during your Maintenance Phase this model can advance up to 3" and make one basic melee attack.
  • Drive: Righteous Vengeance - While in this model's command range, a warjack under its control gains Righteous Vengeance.
  • Iron Sentinel - While B2B with a friendly Faction warjack, this model gains +2 DEF and ARM and cannot become knocked down.
  • Tactician [ Dawnguard ] - While in this model's command range, friendly Dawnguard models can ignore other friendly Dawnguard models when determining LOS. Friendly Dawnguard models can advance through other friendly Dawnguard models in this model's command range if they have enough movement to move completely past them.

Thoughts on Dawnguard Sentinel Scyir

Dawnguard Sentinel Scyir in a nutshell

Combat solo, unit supporter and jack marshal with a great drive - the Scyir is a well priced solo in the faction. He is adequately defended against blasts, and thanks to Iron Sentinel it takes some dedicated effort to remove him from the table, once in B2B with a friendly jack. He gives all Dawnguard model in his command range an effective Practiced Maneuvers, plus sports Righteous Vengeance - another reason to stay close to his brothers-in-arms. He confers it to his marshaled jack too, covering a nice area, where the enemy will have to think forward of triggering Vengeance attacks and moves by removing your models.

Combos & Synergies

  • Expensive jacks draw quite a lot of attention on jack marshals. Stick to cheap ones, like the Aspis, the Siren or the Griffon, so the enemy will probably have more important targets to go after.
  • Arcanist Mechanik - free focus and Concentrated Power can both cause a marshaled jack to hit way out of its weight class.
  • Though your jacks get a quasi-tactician in the Legion of Dawn theme, your infantry will still be grateful for the movement support.
  • Helynna and Vyros2 both have Deceleration, keeping him at an all-time high ARM against shooting.
  • Solos rarely warrant direct support, but Thyron's Storm Rager spell is super scary on the Scyir, especially if he has a jack in B2B.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • You will have to pay for all of his abilities, even if you'd use him solely as a marshal, or a unit supporter. Fortunately, he's cheap (or free in theme).
  • For all the good he can do, he's terribly one dimensional. Owing to the way the free points works in the Legions of Dawn theme, he can be (and often is) taken purely for Tactician plus the occasional troubleshooting. Bringing a jack with him is viable, but almost always necessitates bringing the max FA (3) of Arcanist Mechaniks to let the marshal'd jack do work.

Tricks & Tips

  • He can get Iron Sentinel from any Jack, not just his own. Even better, you can get Iron Sentinel from knocked-down or stationary jacks too (though you should only consider this, if your enemy has no AoE or spray attacks).
  • Tactician works with either version of Vyros, and on himself too. If all else fails, you can still charge in through your lines for a MAT8 P+S12 weapon master attack.

Rules Clarifications

Rules Clarification : Weapon Master - None yet. (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : 'Jack Marshal      (Edit)

  • If a warjack gets a marshal benefit (such as Crush) but then moves out of the marshal's CMD range, it keeps the benefit. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Marshals can control character warjacks. (Closed thread)
  • Although they never get the Power Up bonus, a marshaled warjack can gain focus via other means (such as Accumulator, Empower, Spirit Harvester, etc).
    • They can do this even after the Marshal dies and they become autonomous.
  • 'Jack Marshal & Ranking Officer (Edit)
    • If a Ranking Officer joins a unit with the 'Jack Marshal ability, then they can still only take Mercenary warjacks - they don't gain access to Faction warjacks. (Infernal Ruling)
    • They can control that mercenary warjack as normal, even though they're technically no longer the same faction as the jack. (Infernal Ruling)
  • See also this article for the Autonomous warjack rules and how to re-control them.

Rules Clarification : Vengeance and/or Righteous Vengeance and/or Retaliation and/or Swift Vengeance and/or Tantrum     (Edit)

  • Vengeance moves do not have to be towards an enemy model.
  • You can choose to not move, but still get the attack. One is not conditional on the other.
  • Vengeance is not an activation. It does not prevent the model/unit from activating and acting normally later in the turn.
  • Stationary and knocked down models may not perform Vengeance moves nor attacks.
  • Units only
    • Out of formation models cannot make Vengeance moves nor Vengeance attacks.
However if the unit commander uses their movement to bring the Grunts back into formation, then they can move and attack.
    • When resolving Vengeance, move all models in the unit before making any attacks. (Infernal Ruling)
    • If you have more than one unit with Vengeance, move all of unit A then complete all of unit A's attacks, before starting to move unit B.
    • If you manage to spawn new models during the Maintenance Phase (such as with Reconstruction or Blood-Bound) then those new models can also make Vengeance attacks. (Infernal Ruling)
    • Due to the way it is worded Vengeance can be "inherited" by unit attachments that do not actually have the Vengeance ability themselves. For instance, a Soulless Escort attached to the Spears of Scyrah.
      • If anyone is damaged, including the attachment, everyone in the unit gets to trigger Vengeance.
      • But if everyone is killed except the attachment, then he doesn't get to trigger Vengeance because the rule is "no longer on the table".
    • Granted [ Vengeance ]
      • If the model granting Vengeance dies, the unit will not get any Vengeance attacks.
It is "If you have Vengeance, and you were damaged last turn, you get a move+attack."
It is not "If you get damaged, you get Vengeance next turn."
      • If you lose Vengeance halfway through resolving Vengeance, then you stop resolving Vengeance immediately. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Triggers
    • Only enemy attacks trigger Vengeance. There are plenty of ways enemies can damage you without attacking you (such as Electro Leap) and these will not trigger Vengeance.
    • If a CA has Granted: Vengeance then only models in formation have it. However, models that are damaged while out of formation can trigger Vengeance, they just will not benefit from it. (Locked thread)

Rules Clarification : Tactician and/or Operations Command     (Edit)

  • Applying the LOS and Movement bonuses work like mirror opposites:
    • LOS: The models you draw LOS through do not need to be in the Tactician bubble. The model drawing LOS does need to be in the Tactician bubble.
    • Movement: The models you move through do need to be in the bubble. The model moving does not.
  • The "can ignore for LOS" is not optional. You cannot opt to "turn off" your ability to see through models, in the hope of getting a free strike or some such. (Infernal Ruling)
