This model is available in one Prime Army, Black Fleet. It can also be used in the Unlimited game mode. You can view the other Mk3 models that made it into a Legacy Army at this page.

Note that the rest of this page is about the model's Mark III rules.

Smog belchers are black ogrun who wield heavy culverin-style cannons. Smog belcher weapons are crafted by skilled ironmongers, black ogrun metalsmiths who fuse their craft with rituals of bloodletting and dark magic. From the deck of a Cryxian vessel, smog belchers lay down a barrage of fire, filling the air with a lingering cloud of corrupting ash that rots flesh and blisters the lungs of anyone who breathes it.

Thoughts on Black Ogrun Smog Belchers

Black Ogrun Smog Belchers in a nutshell

The mobile artillery of the Scourge theme, the Smog Belchers bring powerful ranged attacks to the theme force. Smog Belchers bring a substantial amount of control against living warrior models, and their smoke clouds can help protect warcasters and support models that position behind them.

Combos & Synergies

  • Any warcaster that doesn't want to be shot off the table, they can stand behind these guys for a bit of LOS-blocking.
  • Casters with ARM debuffs to pump their damage output. That is Scaverous, Deneghra1, Venethrax ect.
  • Axiara can give them Prowl (giving them Stealth while in their own clouds) or Reposition (to hide behind their own clouds).
  • Skarre, Admiral of the Black Fleet Deceleration gives them a 15/17 profile vs ranged attacks and can bring them back with reinforcements.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Relatively costly and inaccurate shots (without buffs).
  • Take up a lot of time on the clock. Not just the AOE attacks and deviations, but positioning them neatly to create a cloud wall and repositioning behind it.
  • Despite having boxes, they die pretty fast.

Tricks & Tips

  • Don't forget they'll nearly always have +2 DEF from standing in their own clouds. If you don't need to run/charge, make sure you shoot (even if no one is evenly remotely in range).

Rules Clarifications

Rules Clarification:  : Magical Damage      (Edit)
(Click Expand to read)

* The "Damage Type: Magical" is not inherited by "secondary" damage from a weapon. That is, stuff like arcs (Electro Leap) or hazards (Scather). (Infernal Ruling)
  • All spells have "Damage Type: Magical" (refer errata).
    • This is inherited by "immediate" secondary damage (such as Eruption of Spines). (Infernal Ruling)
    • and might be inherited by "lingering" secondary damage (see below).
  • If a spell leaves a template in play that does damage to models that walk around in it, then:
    • if it is not described as a hazard it will do magical damage to models that walk around in it. (Example: Razor Wall)
    • if it is a hazard then it will not do magical damage to models that walk around in it. Instead, it does whatever damage type is specified by the spell description. (Example: Breath of Corruption).
    • (Infernal Ruling)
  • If a weapon/spell includes Magic Damage and another kind of elemental damage it will still damage Incorporeal models. Incorporeal models are not affected by the rule "if an attack does multiple types of damage and a model is immune to at least one it is immune to the entire attack."
The phrase "immune to non-magical damage" should be interpreted as "immune to damage that doesn't include Damage Type: Magical" (not interpreted as "has immunity to Corrosion and Electricity and Cold and etc.")
